Senior DevOps Engineer, Cloud Platform
About the Role
We are building a scalable, cloud-native Email-as-a-Service (EaaS) platform to power automated delivery of alerts, reports, and data notifications across our product suite. You will own the infrastructure layer, defining and automating the full lifecycle of email delivery infrastructure using Terraform/OpenTofu and OpenStack/Rancher. This is a high-ownership role where your work directly enables product reliability at scale.
What You Will Do
- Design, implement, and maintain end-to-end IaC pipelines for the email service using Terraform and OpenTofu, covering provisioning, configuration, and teardown.
- Deploy and operate email service infrastructure on OpenStack and Rancher-managed Kubernetes clusters.
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure delivery and service rollouts, ensuring zero-downtime deployments.
- Define and enforce networking, DNS, TLS, and IP reputation configurations required for reliable email delivery (SPF, DKIM, DMARC).
- Implement observability stacks (metrics, logging, alerting) for email throughput, delivery rates, bounce/spam rates, and queue health.
- Manage secrets, credentials, and access controls using secrets management tooling and RBAC across environments.
- Collaborate with backend engineers to define infrastructure contracts and service interfaces.
- Conduct capacity planning, load testing, and incident response for the email platform.
- Produce clear IaC documentation, runbooks, and disaster recovery playbooks.
What We Are Looking For
- 6+ years of hands-on DevOps or platform engineering experience in production environments.
- Strong proficiency in Terraform and/or OpenTofu, including module design, state management, and remote backends.
- Solid experience with OpenStack and/or Rancher for container orchestration and VM workload management.
- Working knowledge of Kubernetes, Helm, and cloud-native deployment patterns.
- Experience with email infrastructure specifics: MTA configuration, SMTP relay, bounce handling, deliverability tuning.
- Proficiency in at least one scripting language (Python, Bash, or Go) for automation and tooling.
- Familiarity with GitOps workflows and infrastructure drift detection.
- Strong understanding of networking fundamentals: DNS, TCP/IP, load balancing, firewall rules.
Nice to Have
- Experience with open-source email platforms such as Postfix, Haraka, or similar MTAs.
- Exposure to message queue systems such as RabbitMQ or Kafka for high-volume email dispatching.
- Knowledge of email compliance and deliverability standards (CAN-SPAM, GDPR, ISP feedback loops).
- Prior experience building internal platform teams or shared infrastructure services.
