What you’ll be doing...
Verizon is in the process of modernising our core networks to enable new, groundbreaking products and technologies. In this position, you will be responsible for Centre Engineering, Project Management, and Vendor Management for various Ultra-Long Haul (ULH) and core network build initiatives across multiple networks.
As a leader, you will engineer and manage multiple simultaneous projects, maintaining full involvement throughout the lifecycle of a build to resolve critical technical and operational issues as they present themselves.
Your core responsibilities will include:
Managing a team of Engineers and Project Managers, coordinating the design and deployment of management network components.
Developing a deep understanding of your team's workflow, acting as their primary source for technical, system, or interpersonal trouble resolution, and providing mentorship through ongoing performance management.
Overseeing the generation of technical specifications, including detailed equipment configurations, power mapping, cable running lists, and Bill of Materials (BOM).
Guiding the team in managing Capacity Creation Requests, financial budget management through Project Supplements, and procurement via Telephone Equipment Orders (TEOs).
Coordinating and scheduling resources across multiple organisations to align project requirements with business goals.
Maintaining established technical standards, providing accurate forecasting of deployment targets, and utilising tracking tools to monitor milestone completions and project jeopardies.
Facilitating and maintaining strategic relationships with multiple service and third-party turf vendors. This includes ensuring pricing compliance, standards enforcement, and conducting quality and performance reviews.
Monitoring internal metrics to ensure efficient performance levels are achieved and generating reports to identify systemic issues. You will serve as the ultimate escalation point to identify, monitor, and implement corrective action plans to mitigate impacts to project schedules.
Maintaining excellent communication with Functional Team Members, Implementation organisations, and Direct Management to ensure early identification of issues and timely reporting of status.
What we’re looking for...
You are self-driven with experience in the design and implementation of complex and distributed systems. You have a passion for seeking engineering excellence, adopting new technologies, and you are not afraid to drive for success by working with cross-functional teams.
You’ll need to have:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
Relevant work experience.
Demonstrated ability to work well with others collaboratively and individually on complex projects.
Experience solving complex problems and the ability to make independent decisions based on policies, practices, and project requirements.
Demonstrated experience managing multiple, often conflicting priorities to successful completion.
Even better if you have one or more of the following:
Previous leadership experience in an engineering or project management role.
Deep Engineering, Planning, and/or Operations knowledge, especially with Long-Haul Telecommunications networks.
Strong verbal and written communication skills required for inter-organisational and partner communications.
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
Knowledge or experience in one or more of the following technical domains:
SONET, DWDM, and Long Haul Transport Systems
Backbone Routing and Switching systems
Physical Server Deployments
Voice Switching platforms
Fibre splicing, fibre remediation, and characterisation
Telecom Installation Experience (hands-on or remotely directed) and managing large-scale telecom infrastructure programmes.
If Verizon and this role sound like a fit for you, we encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet every “even better” qualification listed above.
