Design Fabrication Operations Dock & Clay Handling Supervisor 2nd Shift

General Purpose of Position:

As a leader of a UAW skilled trades staff supporting Creative Design, your position is multifaceted —blending practical expertise, organizational leadership, and administrative oversight. Work is of a practical skill set using independent judgment within the limits of general practices and standards. Proactively pursue the vision established for the area and foster an atmosphere of teamwork and cooperation.  Your team is responsible for the management of daily logistics and timely processing of incoming and outgoing goods that support the design and development of new vehicle concepts, show properties, and prototype components.

**This is a 2nd shift position from 3:00-11:30pm**

Scope of Responsibilities: 

  • Exhibits a safety mindset while identifying, taking ownership, and resolving safety concerns and supporting the safety champions of each space in Design Center and GM Partners.
  • Conducts safety talks, safe operating instruction, pre-task planning and safety incident reporting & investigations
  • Lead and facilitate Safety Incident investigations
  • Demonstrate behaviors that support diversity and inclusion within the organization
  • Lead a team of 15 – 20 UAW personnel
  • Understand and consistently administer the GM/UAW National and Local UAW Agreements
  • Utilize Labor Relations in accordance with Corporate Policies and Procedures and Government Regulations
  • Attend required meetings, communicates all shop operation line-ups, and participates in GMS reviews and audits
  • Knowledgeable on GMS principles Safety, People, Quality, Responsiveness, Cost and Environment (SPQRCE)
  • Develops standardized work, TIS’s and participates in staff reviews
  • Supports DFO team members and supervisors from other Design Fabrication Shops
  • Request and schedules maintenance of associated equipment within the department
  • Apply software applications related to Data Management, and workflow tracking
  • Interface with Design Fabrication customer base, Fabrication Engineering, Project Team and Facility Operations
  • Promote and foster an environment which encourages team member involvement, soliciting suggestions, training plans, resolve problems and provide continuous improvement
  • Raise awareness of timing impacts relative scheduled workload and communicate timing of major projects

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum of an associate’s degree in Supply Chain Transportation and Logistics Management or a relevant field and/or equivalent related work
  • Strong analytical/problem solving skills with capability to identify solutions to unusual and complex problems
  • Demonstrated ability to manage an exceptionally high workload, while being very innovative and displaying outstanding initiative
  • Have a highly proficient knowledge of internal computer software (i.e. Maximo and Corrigo) and functionality as they relate to tracking, data history, reports, and organizational activity
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications
  • Ability to work second shift is required
  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills
  • Strong ability to work independently, and effectively with others
  • Capable of drafting standardized work and task instruction sheets and functional understanding of GMS Principles
  • Participate in union meetings/negotiations, resolve any labor or staff issues
  • Knowledgeable with UAW 160 local and national contracts

  • Excellent technical breadth, organizational, administrative and leadership skills
  • Skilled at dealing with and reconciling ambiguity
  • Demonstrated ability at building effective teams
  • Experience in working with or supervising UAW or Skilled Trades resources
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and collaborate with teams to ensure successful task completion
