Role Summary

 

The Early Development Team Leader (Senior Director - EDTL) – Cardiovascular Health Tech (CV Health Tech)leads the highest-level, cross-functional and cross-sector team responsible for optimizing patient benefit–risk profile and long-term portfolio value across the Cardiovascular Cross-Sector Portfolio.

This role extends the traditional EDTL model to integrated portfolio leadership across Innovative Medicine, MedTech, Digital Health, Data Science, and external ecosystems.

 

The EDTL drives the development and execution of unified clinical, digital, and evidence strategies across cardiovascular initiatives and ensures delivery against defined Target Product Profiles, regulatory pathways, value demonstration requirements, and enterprise portfolio objectives.

 

Operating in alignment with Company, Therapeutic Area, and Disease Area strategies, the EDTL integrates exploratory innovation into structured, stage-gated development frameworks to address critical unmet cardiovascular needs and strengthen the IM–MedTech–Digital ecosystem.

 

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

    Lead the design and implementation of a cross-sector cardiovascular development strategy focused on optimizing the patient journey by integrating Innovative Medicine and MedTech solutions at key stages of disease management, ensuring alignment with target product profiles, value demonstration, and enterprise portfolio priorities

  • Drive portfolio-level development and lifecycle optimization strategies to maximize long-term scientific differentiation, clinical impact, and commercial value.

  • Chair and lead the Cross-Sector Cardiovascular CDT, ensuring structured governance, disciplined decision-making, senior leadership alignment, and stage-gated progression of initiative across JJIM and MedTech platforms along the cardiovascular patient pathway.

  • Translate exploratory cardiovascular initiatives into executable development pathways with defined diligence gates and enterprise resource alignment.

  • Ensure effective planning and prioritization across therapeutic, device, and digital platforms, proactively identifying and managing strategic and operational risks.

  • Champion the Cardiovascular Cross-Sector Portfolio across all organizational levels while bringing enterprise and portfolio perspective to cross-functional discussions.

  • Ensure robust and strategically aligned clinical trial programs, digital validation strategies, publication plans, IIS, real-world evidence generation, and AI-enabled predictive modeling initiatives globally.

  • Serve as the central integrator across Innovative Medicine, MedTech, Medical Affairs, Digital, Data Science, Strategy, and Business Development within the One J&J governance framework.

  • Drive and maintain strategic alliances across Innovative Medicine, MedTech, Digital, and external collaborators including academic institutions, consortia, and frontier innovation partners.

  • Represent the Cross-Sector Cardiovascular CDT in internal governance forums and with external stakeholders (health authorities, academic partners, consortium leaders, and strategic collaborators).

  • May lead cross-functional, therapeutic area, or enterprise initiatives beyond the immediate CDT scope.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Medicine required (MD/PhD preferred; MBA desirable).

  • Significant pharmaceutical and/or MedTech industry experience leading complex cross-functional development programs in cardiovascular or related therapeutic areas.

  • Demonstrated ability to operate at portfolio level within global matrix organizations.

  • Strong understanding of cardiovascular disease biology, clinical development paradigms, and integrated therapeutic-device-digital ecosystems.

  • Experience interacting with governance bodies and senior leadership forums.

  • Experience in exploratory R&D, cross-sector innovation, or portfolio strategy within a healthcare organization.

  • Willingness to travel internationally (approximately 15–20%).

  • Proven track record of delivering complex, collaborative programs and implementing innovative, cross-sector approaches in response to evolving scientific and market landscapes.

  • People leadership experience

  • Up to 15-20 % domestic and international travel.
