Job Description

As a Senior Quality Engineer within PPG's Aerospace Business, you will help support the design, production, and sustainment of advanced aerospace transparency products—including windshields, windows, and canopies. You will apply quality science throughout the entire product lifecycle to ensure full compliance with AS9100, FAA regulations, and customer requirements. You will collaborate with Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, and Customer teams to lead product and process conformance, lead root cause analysis, and promote continuous improvement projects across the organization.

You bring technical quality expertise while being collaborative. You excel at prioritizing and escalating risks related to safety, compliance, and customer satisfaction; ensure accuracy in documentation and traceability; and promote a culture of quality excellence. You will help uphold PPG's industry-leading aerospace transparency systems.

You will sit onsite at our Sylmar, CA facility. You will report to the Senior Site Quality Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure quality and regulatory requirements are communicated and flowed down to Engineering, Production, and Supply Chain teams.
  • Lead Integrated Product Team (IPT) quality compliance activities from early design through production and sustainment.
  • Complete Root Cause, Corrective, and Preventive Action (RCCA) processes and validate the effectiveness of implemented actions.
  • Review, assess, and disposition nonconformances related to transparency manufacturing, including optical performance defects.
  • Contribute to the creation and ongoing maintenance of PFMEAs, control plans, and inspection plans to support process control.
  • Conduct product and process audits to verify adherence to AS9100 and customer specific quality standards.
  • Support FAA, PMA, and OEM approval processes, ensuring traceability, configuration control, and compliance documentation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in quality, manufacturing, or engineering roles.
  • Strong understanding of AS9100, FAA regulations, and core quality engineering tools (RCCA, SPC, MSA).
  • Demonstrated experience conducting technical reviews, interpreting engineering drawings, and managing configuration control.
  • Experience analyzing process variation, interpret metrics, and apply data-driven methods to improve quality performance.
  • Collaborator with experience working on teams and engaging directly with customers.
  • Familiarity with aerospace transparency materials and associated optical performance standards preferred.
  • Only U.S. Citizens, Green Card holders, and political asylees or refuges are eligible to apply.
  • You must have or be eligible to obtain security clearance.
  • Professional certifications such as CQE, AS9102, Six Sigma Green Belt/Black Belt, or equivalent preferred.
  • Knowledge of FAA PMA processes, OEM quality/engineering flow-down requirements, or aircraft certification practices preferred.

The base salary range for this position is $65,000 to $80,000, with a possibility of an annual bonus up to 2.5% of base salary. PPG offers comprehensive benefits such as Health, Dental, Life, Retirement Plan, Paid Vacation and Holidays, Employee Assistance Program (EAP), Disability/Leave, Family Leave and other Voluntary benefit offerings.
