Technical Business Analyst
Location: Auckland
The Technical Business Analyst plays a pivotal role in designing, documenting, and technically enabling solutions across Apex’s platforms.
Acting as a translator between business needs and platform capabilities, the Technical BA is responsible for defining technical requirements, supporting solution configuration, and ensuring delivery outcomes aligned with operational and client needs.
This is a client-facing and delivery-integrated role requiring strong technical acumen and an ability to contribute to hands-on solution execution across data exchange, reporting, and platform workflows.
Job Responsibilities:
Partner with clients and internal stakeholders to define technical requirements across data, reporting, and integration workflows.
Analyse, map, and document data exchange structures, flat file formats, and interface specifications.
Collaborate with engineers and platform teams to configure platform behaviours, including data ingestion pipelines, reporting setups, and reference data mapping.
Manage and triage client technical requests and production issues via the service desk, aligned with the Apex Client Service Desk SLA framework.
Produce technical documentation including configuration guides, interface mappings, test plans, and environment setup instructions.
Support solution testing including data validation, report verification, and functional walkthroughs.
Validate and query data using SQL across environments to support delivery, testing, and incident resolution.
Participate in impact assessments and Statements of Work (SoWs), including sizing and effort estimation.
Coordinate technical readiness for fund launches and client onboarding, including configuration, testing, and deployment.
Collaborate with business analysts, developers, and testers to ensure technical traceability, test coverage, and delivery sign-off.
Contribute to the design of scalable solutions aligned to single-source-of-truth architecture and platform standards.
Support backlog grooming and prioritisation of work requests across DevOps boards and work tracking tools.
Skills Required:
3–5+ years experience as a Technical Business Analyst or Systems Analyst in financial services or investment operations.
Strong understanding of data flows, flat file integration, interface specifications, and metadata design.
Advanced SQL for data validation, investigation, and mapping.
Advanced Excel skills, including data modelling, macros, and validation techniques.
Familiarity with Snowflake, data warehouse principles, and reporting layer configuration.
Understanding of API structures, message formats (JSON, XML), and integration testing.
Experience working in Agile or hybrid delivery environments.
Demonstrated ability to write and communicate clear, structured technical documentation.
Comfortable working across development, QA, operations, and client-facing teams.
Proven ability to translate complex business requirements into actionable technical solutions.
Tertiary qualification in Information Systems, Computer Science, Finance, or a related discipline.
Knowledge of fund administration systems, registry workflows, or client reporting frameworks.
Experience in ETL, data pipelines, or reporting layer tooling (e.g. Power BI, Looker).
Familiarity with Azure DevOps or similar delivery management tools.
Prior involvement in platform transitions, system onboarding, or data migrations.
Familiarity with industry frameworks such as IIBA and Agile methodologies (SAFe, Scrum, Kanban).
