Job Description

About the Team

The Merchant Acquisition, Onboarding & Early Success (AOE) team ensures that every local business can easily join DoorDash, get up and running fast, and see meaningful results from day one. We build the platforms and experiences that make sign‑up simple, activation near‑instant, and early performance strong—so merchants can focus on serving customers while growing with DoorDash.

In 2026, our focus areas are:

  • Dramatically shortening time‑to‑live so more small and medium businesses can complete setup the same day and start earning sooner.
  • Expanding the breadth and quality of local selection customers love by efficiently signing, onboarding, and activating merchants at scale.
  • Empowering our sales and onboarding teammates with intuitive tools and automation to improve merchant experience while lowering operational costs.

About the Role

As an Engineering Manager, you’ll lead a team building the core systems that help local businesses join DoorDash quickly and start seeing value immediately. You’ll partner with Product, Design, Analytics, Operations, and ML to define and deliver a roadmap that balances platform scale and reliability with fast, merchant‑facing improvements.

Your team’s work will directly impact how fast merchants go live, how successful they are in their first month, and how much selection customers can find on DoorDash. You’ll guide architecture and execution across initiatives like AI‑guided onboarding, automation to reduce manual steps and errors, and simple, clear activation experiences that set merchants up for success. You must be located in San Francisco, CA, Sunnyvale, CA, Seattle, WA, or New York, NY for this hybrid position.

You’re excited about this opportunity because you will…

  • Lead and grow a team of exceptional backend and client-side engineers delivering end-to-end engineering solutions
  • Own roadmap delivery in partnership with PM, Design, Analytics, S&O, and GTM teams, balancing platform scale, reliability, and merchant‑facing product velocity.
  • Advance AI‑first onboarding, including menu ingestion automation and guided POS/non‑POS flows, to materially lift same‑day setup and activation conversion.
  • Improve early success quality by shipping features and integrations that reduce cancellations
  • Provide architectural guidance across distributed systems, merchant data pipelines, workflow orchestration, and web application surfaces; uphold engineering excellence, reliability, and performance at scale.
  • Establish strong operational rigor on delivery, incident response, and experimentation.
  • Hire and develop a diverse, inclusive, high‑performing team; partner with recruiting to build a strong pipeline and mentor engineers and tech leads.

We’re excited about you because you have…

  • BS, MS, or PhD. in Computer Science or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in people management leading full-stack teams (backend & web) of 8+ engineers
  • 8+ years of industry experience
  • Extensive experience as an engineer in a fast-paced, product-focused development environment
  • Experience with distributed system design, system scaling, and performance optimization
  • Hands-on leadership and strong product intuition
  • Humility - willing to get into the details and open to feedback
  • Growth mindset - you're eager to expand your skill set and excited to carve out your career path in a hyper-growth setting
  • Adaptability, resiliency, and ability to thrive in ambiguity - things can change quickly, and you'll need to help the team evolve
