Staff Engineer - Embedded Software Test
Who we are looking for
We are looking for an energetic and motivated individual with strong communication, organizational, and technical skills who works well in a diverse environment across a geographically distributed organization.
Who you are
You are driven by your curiosity to understand how things work – and to fix them when they don’t. You are ready to collaborate with a team to create something larger. You enjoy your work, yet you also enjoy a work/life balance that allows you time to unwind and spend time with family and friends outside of work. You enjoy a hybrid work schedule that allows you a balance of home and office work. You’re ready to learn, and you are ready to guide – whether it is the next generation of engineers coming behind you, or customers with a looming deadline.
A Day in the Life
On a typical day you will design, implement and evolve software test and validation strategies for highly integrated Radio Integrated Circuit (IC) and System-on-Chip (SoC) products in C, C#, Python and other languages. Your daily work will require collaboration with engineers from many hardware and software disciplines. You will influence the technical direction and best practices to ensure SDP-ADC delivers high quality, rigorously tested software solutions to solve our customers' complex problems.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and execute embedded software test strategy across platforms, products and releases.
- Design and implement complex system tests for embedded software running on SoCs, ICs, and reference platforms.
- Provide technical leadership and input into the architecture and design of scalable test frameworks and system-level validation environments.
- Act as a senior technical leader and subject matter expert for embedded software testing and validation.
- Develop and maintain automated test frameworks using languages such as Python, C, and C#.
- Drive CI/CD integration for automated build, test, and regression pipelines.
- Ensure traceability between requirements, test coverage, and release readiness.
- Collaborate with Software Leads, Firmware Engineers, IC Design, Systems, Applications, and Product teams to ensure quality objectives are met throughout the lifecycle.
- Provide technical input into architecture reviews, design reviews, and release readiness decisions.
- Support customer‑facing investigations and root‑cause analysis, when required.
- Mentor and guide senior and mid‑level engineers on test design, automation, and quality best practices.
- Establish and promote coding, testing, and documentation standards.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of ADI software development and quality processes.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor of Engineering degree or higher in electrical, electronics, computer science or a related field.
- 7+ years of embedded software test development experience, embedded frameworks knowledge, and debug of device drivers.
- Deep understanding of embedded systems, SoCs, hardware/software interfaces, and drivers.
- Deep experience testing RF, high‑speed converter, or mixed‑signal systems.
- Proven experience designing automated test frameworks and CI/CD pipelines.
- Proven record of successful product delivery with a hands-on approach.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to influence across teams.
Differentiating Qualifications
- Strong programming skills in C, C#, Python.
- Strong debugging skills across software, firmware, and hardware boundaries.
- Familiarity with lab instrumentation (oscilloscopes, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, power supplies).
- Experience with Jenkins, GitHub, and modern DevOps tooling.
- Exposure to software quality standards (e.g., ISO 9001, ASPICE).
- Working experience with NUnit, PyTest, API testing, End to end requirement management (using Jama etc.).
