Position Summary

As a Senior Accountant at Thermo Fisher Scientific in the (CAD) Chemical Analysis Division, you will play a critical role in ensuring financial accuracy, strong internal controls, and high-quality reporting within a global environment. This position operates at the intersection of accounting, financial systems, and business operations, supporting the integrity of financial data from source systems through consolidated reporting.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams including Accounting, Finance, IT, and Shared Services to support a controlled and efficient close process, resolve data and system-related issues, and ensure compliance with US GAAP and SOX requirements. This role serves as a key finance partner to the CAD business, providing guidance on accounting treatment, revenue recognition, and financial reporting matters.

In addition to core accounting responsibilities, you will drive process improvements, support system enhancements, and help advance automation and scalability across financial operations while supporting broader business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the monthly and quarterly close processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to internal controls

  • Perform variance analysis and review financial results to ensure completeness and accuracy of reporting

  • Review account reconciliations for accuracy, completeness, and potential risk, ensuring alignment with internal control requirements

  • Serve as a key finance partner to the CAD business, responding to financial inquiries and providing guidance on revenue recognition and GAAP-related matters

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to investigate and resolve financial data discrepancies and system-related issues

  • Support the integrity and governance of financial data across ERP and consolidation systems

  • Ensure appropriate alignment and mapping of financial data to support accurate reporting and analysis

  • Partner with Accounting, Finance, IT, and Shared Services to enhance financial processes and reporting capabilities

  • Participate in cross-functional project teams to support CAD business objectives and drive successful business outcomes

  • Contribute to process improvement and automation initiatives to increase efficiency and strengthen controls

  • Provide support for internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with US GAAP and SOX requirements

Minimum Requirements / Qualifications

  • Must be on‑site at a Thermo Fisher Scientific location four (4) days per week

  • Advanced Degree plus 6 years of experience, or Bachelor’s Degree plus 8 years of experience in a corporate environment or public accounting firm

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related business field

  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, SOX compliance, and internal controls

  • Experience with month-end close processes and financial reporting

  • Experience reviewing financial data, reconciliations, or reporting outputs for accuracy and risk

  • Experience working with financial systems, data flows, or system integrations

  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, including IT or systems partners

  • Experience with financial systems and reporting tools (e.g., ERP platforms, BlackLine, Hyperion/HFM) and an understanding of how data flows across systems

  • Proven ability to identify and implement process improvements or automation initiatives

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA certification

  • Experience with financial data governance, mapping, or consolidation systems (e.g., HFM/CMR)

  • Experience in a global or multi-entity environment

  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with large data sets

  • Project management experience supporting system or process transformation initiatives

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in Massachusetts is $103,100.00–$154,700.00.
