Compensation includes a base salary in the range of $163,400.00 - $272,300.00. The base salary may vary within the anticipated base pay range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include an incentive program.

Cox Enterprises is seeking a Strategy and Investments Director to join our team in Atlanta, Georgia.

Cox Strategy & Investments team is responsible for leading Cox Enterprises’ corporate strategy, managing and diversifying our portfolio of companies and investments, investing in venture-stage companies through our venture capital fund, Socium Ventures, and supporting the local Atlanta startup ecosystem through efforts like the Cox Cleantech Accelerator.  Our team is at the forefront of our effort to build new business platforms in industries including Cleantech, Govtech, Edtech, Digital Journalism and Digital Health.

Strategy & Investments offer the opportunity to make a big impact, working closely with senior executives in a close-knit, supportive team.

The Role:

As a Director, you will play a highly visible leadership role in driving forward strategic initiatives for Cox. You will manage ongoing strategic conversations with Cox’s Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and spearhead the development of investment themes to diversify the business.  The role will be dynamic, intellectually challenging, and require strong problem-solving, leadership and executive presence to influence decisions with senior executives.  The successful candidate will be a critical thinker who is proactive, collaborative and has high integrity.

Responsibilities:

In this role you will:

  • Manage CEI corporate strategy discussions with the ELT.

  • Lead strategic projects and present recommendations to senior executives. 

  • Collaborate with leaders from all Cox divisions to address strategic topics.

  • Develop new investment themes.

  • Identify potential new investments and conduct due diligence.

  • Oversee financial modeling efforts to guide strategic and investment decisions.

  • Work alongside the Corporate Development team to support investment processes.

  • Create materials to share Cox Enterprises’ Board of Directors.

  • Support our portfolio companies and serve as board members or board observer.

  • Support local accelerators and startups.

  • Coach and mentor Strategy & Investments team members. 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, economics, accounting, engineering or related field and 10 years’ work experience in strategic analysis and research at a top-tier strategy consulting firm, private equity/venture capital firm, investment bank or corporation. The right candidate could also have a different combination, such as a master’s degree and 8 years’ experience; a Ph.D. and 5 years’ experience in a related field; or 14 years’ experience in a related field. 

  • Experience developing investment themes and identifying attractive investment opportunities.

  • Experience with M&A and due diligence processes. 

  • Strong business judgment and proven ability to think critically to deliver insights.

  • Experience leading and collaborating with multiple stakeholders to deliver results. 

  • Strong executive presence, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to influence executive leaders and external partners.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple, concurrent projects.

  • Strong leadership and people-development skills.

  • Track record of consistent high-level achievement in work-settings. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in business, finance, engineering, accounting, or related field.
