Job Description

Ready to be pushed beyond what you think you’re capable of?

At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world. It’s a massive, ambitious opportunity that demands the best of us, every day, as we build the emerging onchain platform — and with it, the future global financial system.

To achieve our mission, we’re seeking a very specific candidate. We want someone who is passionate about our mission and who believes in the power of crypto and blockchain technology to update the financial system. We want someone who is eager to leave their mark on the world, who relishes the pressure and privilege of working with high caliber colleagues, and who actively seeks feedback to keep leveling up. We want someone who will run towards, not away from, solving the company’s hardest problems.

Our work culture is intense and isn’t for everyone. But if you want to build the future alongside others who excel in their disciplines and expect the same from you, there’s no better place to be.

While many roles at Coinbase are remote-first, we are not remote-only. In-person participation is required throughout the year. Team and company-wide offsites are held multiple times annually to foster collaboration, connection, and alignment. Attendance is expected and fully supported.

As a Payments Risk Analyst I, you will help protect Coinbase and its customers by investigating and decisioning high‑risk fiat payment activity while balancing loss prevention and customer experience. You’ll work closely with CX, Risk, and Engineering partners to ensure safe scaling of our payments ecosystem.

Please note that this role is expected to report onsite in our Philippines Centre of Excellence office in Manila, Philippines.

What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties):

  • Investigate and decision high‑risk payments cases (e.g., unban, limits, withdrawal holds, transfer risk monitoring) using internal tools like Caseflow, Threat Investigation Portal (TIP), and Admin to determine the safest outcome for customers and the business.
  • Review account and transaction signals (payment method history, velocity, geolocation, device, KYC/AML flags) to identify potential fraud, scams, or abuse and take appropriate actions (limits, holds, flags, or closures) per SOPs.
  • Apply, adjust, and remove payments‑related flags and controls in line with policy, clearly documenting rationale, evidence, and customer impact for downstream teams.
  • Partner with CX frontline teams on escalations that require deeper payments risk review, providing clear guidance on next steps and recommended customer communication.
  • Use data sources (dashboards, queries, and case trends) to identify emerging patterns, recommend rule or workflow changes, and quantify impact of your decisions.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional partners (Risk, Compliance, Trust & Safety, Product, and Engineering) on complex cases, incidents, and process improvements.
  • Contribute to playbooks and SOP updates, and support training or shadowing for new Payments Risk analysts as needed.

What we look for in you (job requirements)

  • This role requires full-time, in-office presence at our Manila location.
  • Motivated by Coinbase’s mission and excited to build a safe, trusted payments experience for customers.
  • 1–2+ years of experience in payments risk, fraud operations, financial crime, trust & safety, or adjacent customer support roles in technology, fintech, or financial services.
  • Demonstrated ability to investigate complex cases, synthesize multiple data points, and make sound judgment calls under time pressure.
  • Comfortable working with metrics and SLAs (e.g., decision throughput, loss prevented, dispute outcomes, response times) in a fast‑moving environment.
  • Strong written communication skills with an emphasis on clear documentation and customer‑centric explanations.
  • Willingness to support shift‑based work, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.&
