Role Purpose
JLL’s Sustainable Asset Services support the creation of resilient real estate assets for the future. We guide our clients through the evolving landscape of sustainability, to deliver their retrofit, fit-out or property transaction in accordance with their ESG goals and industry-leading practice. We help clients to decarbonise their buildings, protect assets from our changing climate and create better, healthier places for people.
We have a diverse team of engineers and sustainability professionals, which enables us to guide our clients through all sustainability requirements for projects, combining NZC with equally critical sustainability criteria, maximising opportunities to deliver best-in-class sustainable buildings. This also provides a great environment for personal learning and development.

What this job involves
Reviewing existing buildings from site surveys, as built information, energy data and research; and quantify a building’s key energy performance factors
Creating detailed thermal models to define a building’s engineering and architectural requirements for NZC
Where necessary building more complex model to system component level, such as Apache HVAC in IES
Some experience of compliance modelling for BRREAM/LEED, Part L and EPCs
Analysing a building’s engineering and building fabric factors to determine opportunities to improve performance
Aligning building analysis to consider related European building regulation issues associated with building performance
Developing building performance metrics to compensate where limited or no information is available
Undertake whole life carbon assessments using OneClickLCA. Training can be provided as required
Strong excel skills to help with analysis. An ability to present data clearly and effectively is a key requirement
Ideally some experience of Building Services systems in a design capacity or similar

A passion for sustainable and NZC buildings
Good verbal and written communication skills
Some building services engineering and design abilities
A knowledge of building fabric elements related to energy efficiency is mandatory
Aspiring to attain Chartered status and understand the pathway to achieving this is desirable not mandatory
Competent in IES VE software and CIBSE TM 54 thermal modelling. Ideally familiar with IES Apache HVAC
Familiar with Part L/SAP modelling and up to date with the proposed changes to these regulations
Competent in AutoCAD and ideally Revit , Candidate should be able to read/comprehend Auto-Cad/Revit drawings to create models
An understanding of industry bodies and standards for NZC buildings and sustainability in the built environment
An understanding of BREEAM and the Energy related credits and strong knowledge of BREEAM/MAT01 assessments
Knowledge or experience in OneClickLCA is desirable
Knowledge of the Passivhaus Standard is desirable
Experience in wider sustainability consulting, such as BREEAM, WELL and biodiversity is desirable
An ability to sketch ideas and communicate with sketches rather than written text
Good understanding of embodied carbon assessment
RICS Whole Life Carbon Assessment (WLCA)
Embodied carbon standards (ISO 14067, EN 15978, TM65, etc). Knowledge of all carbon standards not necessary, however it would be good to have knowledge of one or two carbon standards
Ability to interrogate a material Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) to extract various scope emissions, global warming potential (GWP) and non EPD material disclosure interpretation
Ability to undertake embodied carbon modelling using OneClick LCA and other systems
Ability to read, interrogate and extract information from a bill of quantity (BoQ) to translate into project functional unit use
General understanding of project stages and associated scope emissions throughout the lifecycle of projects
Good excel skills to be able manipulate output into required format

Skills Requirements:
Mechanical, Sustainability, Electrical, Mechatronics, Building Services, Architectural Engineering, or other related Engineering Degree (Bachelor at minimum)
Junior Sustainability Specialist should have atleast 8+ years of experience
Proficient in embodied carbon modelling
Working knowledge in assessing embodied carbon benchmarks and developing decarbonization pathways
