Job Description

About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking an Infrastructure SRE & Cloud Platform Engineering Lead to drive cloud modernization across COO Technology.

In this role, you’ll lead enterprise‑level cloud and platform initiatives, owning the design and resolution of complex, high‑impact infrastructure challenges that directly influence reliability, scalability, security, and modernization across AWS, Azure, and OpenShift environments.

You’ll oversee cloud functions supporting multiple applications, balancing the evolution of new cloud‑native architectures with the continued stability of legacy environments. This role calls for someone who deeply understands how cloud platforms work—from infrastructure fundamentals to modern cloud services—and who brings hands‑on experience managing cloud functions at scale. While you won’t be doing day‑to‑day engineering, your technical judgment and architectural insight will guide teams through critical decisions and transformations.

This is an ideal role for a seasoned infrastructure leader who wants to shape the future of cloud at an enterprise level, influence how platforms are built and operated, and mentor teams through one of the most pivotal phases of cloud transformation.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead enterprise cloud and platform strategy by designing and resolving complex, high‑impact infrastructure challenges to drive reliability, scalability, security, and modernization across AWS, Azure, and OpenShift environments.
  • Establish and operate mature SRE and operational excellence practices, including SLIs/SLOs/SLAs, error budgets, incident response, blameless postmortems, and systematic TOIL reduction through automation and self‑service capabilities.
  • Drive standardization and acceleration through GitOps and Infrastructure‑as‑Code, leveraging Terraform, Helm, Argo CD, Flux, and CI/CD pipelines to improve deployment consistency, resilience, and operational efficiency.
  • Embed DevSecOps, risk, and compliance controls by design, partnering with security, risk, and audit teams to ensure policy‑as‑code, secrets management, image scanning, compliance automation, and adherence to enterprise architecture and non‑functional requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership and cross‑team influence, collaborating with architects, product leaders, and senior stakeholders to define cloud‑native solutions, guide application modernization, and remove delivery impediments across multiple lines of business.
  • Act as a trusted escalation and decision leader in complex, ambiguous situations, resolving critical infrastructure, reliability, and delivery roadblocks while managing competing priorities and high‑risk initiatives.
  • Build, coach, and lead high‑performing engineering teams, fostering a culture of learning, quality, and innovation through hands‑on technical guidance, modern engineering practices, effective resource management, and talent development.

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 5+ years of experience with public cloud platforms (AWS and/or Azure) and Kubernetesbased platforms, including OpenShift (OCP).
  • 3+ years of management or leadership experience

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience operating within a large-scale Technology organization supporting enterprise infrastructure and cloud platforms.
  • Experience collaborating with senior leadership, architects, and subject matter experts to drive enterprise‑wide cloud and platform initiatives.
  • Strong bias for action with proven ability to drive cloud and reliability initiatives from concept through execution.
  • Ability to assess cross‑functional and systemic impact across multiple stakeholders while delivering key platform initiatives.
  • Strong program and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple infrastructure and cloud initiatives simultaneously.
  • Strong critical thinking, systems analysis, and troubleshooting skills, particularly in high‑availability and distributed systems.
  • Experience leading and influencing virtual and geographically dispersed engineering teams.

Job Expectations:

  • Be Humble: You're smart yet always interested in learning from others
  • Work Transparently: You always deal in an honest, direct, and transparent way.
  • Take Ownership: You embrace responsibility and find joy in having the answers
  • Learn More: You regularly self-educate and improve your skill set.
