What the Contract Manager does at Worldwide

The Manager, Contracts is responsible for the overall management of activities involved in the development and revision of contracts, including the line management of Contracts Associates or Managers, as assigned. The Manager, Contracts is responsible for all aspects of contract management development for Worldwide Clinical Trials (Worldwide).

What you will do

  • Draft contractual documents based on study needs in accordance with Master Services Agreements, as applicable, and in alignment with Worldwide standards

  • Responsible for consistently producing deliverables across multiple contractual agreements

  • Identify, advise on, and compile contractual deliverables

  • Determine the appropriate contract approach and manage the corresponding budget in cooperation with subject matter experts (SMEs)

  • Manage and oversee the escalation process on assigned contract deliverables

  • Support the cross-functional contract team (commercial solutions, finance, operations) through the development and delivery of high‑quality contract deliverables within prescribed timelines

  • Meet contract deadlines by establishing priorities and target dates for information gathering, budgeting, drafting, reviews, and approvals

  • Represent and/or lead critical department or company initiatives on behalf of Contract Management Leadership

  • Collaborate with the Contract Management Team to ensure continuity on processes and responsibilities

  • Draft, edit, and revise contractual agreements to ensure alignment with the Master Services Agreement (MSA), as applicable

  • Ensure operational descriptions of services and budgets align with sponsor study requirements and protocol

  • Provide feedback to the team to improve contract quality going forward

  • Review budgets for errors, consistency, and appropriateness of scope

  • Assist in the development of the Contract Team through mentoring more junior members, as assigned

  • Provide budget tool and proposal guidance, as well as mentoring, for assigned proposal team members on client-specific expectations

  • Other duties as requested or assigned by supervisor

  • Provide line management support and mentoring to Contracts Associates or Managers, as assigned. Set and manage contract plans, communication plans, schedules, and deadlines. Determine items that are behind schedule, identify barriers to progress, and plan and implement effective and efficient problem‑solving and corrective action plans.

  • Perform other duties as assigned. The duties and responsibilities listed above are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all‑inclusive.

What you bring to the role

  • Strong planning, strategizing, managing, monitoring, scheduling, and critiquing skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to clearly and concisely present information

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Excellent ability to handle multiple short‑term assignments and project deliverables with strict deadlines in a constantly changing environment

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently

  • Excellent self‑motivation skills

  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications, including Microsoft Word, and a high level of proficiency in Excel

  • Ability to customize text for specific opportunities based on client requests for proposals (RFPs), feedback, and team input

  • Ability to map client grids independently

  • Ability to train and support other personnel

Your experience

  • Advanced writing skills with the ability to compose contract language for various types of contractual agreements

  • Advanced Excel skills and the ability to demonstrate excellent analytical and mathematical skills

  • Minimum five years of experience in a Contract Research Organization (CRO) or pharmaceutical business development or an operational environment, and three years of experience as a Contract Manager

  • Experience drafting various types of contractual agreements in a CRO environment or in pharmaceutical or biotechnology outsourcing

  • Knowledge of the CRO and pharmaceutical industry, knowledge of sales support activities, and a strong understanding of study design, project management, and operational requirements for successful study implementation

  • Ability to advise and interact with all levels of management

  • Ability to work independently
