Job Description

About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Credit Risk & Approval Officer.  This role will be responsible for credit approval, credit management and oversight for the Community Lending & Investment (CLI) portfolio within an assigned region and / or assigned relationships, and products. The successful candidate will work closely with relationship managers, equity originators and analysts within the business units and will assist in the successful pursuit of the business strategy while maintaining appropriate credit quality in the portfolio.  This role may also interact and provide guidance to portfolio managers and workout officers.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide a commercial approach to the businesses balancing market realities with appropriate risk management.
  • Responsible for overseeing lending and equity investing activities for CLI within an assigned product, region or relationships.
  • Credit coverage includes screening, underwriting, portfolio management, CRE reporting, policy, relationships to those with delegated credit authority, credit process administration, and ad hoc projects.
  • Maintain appropriate credit quality and portfolio health through proper, timely and thoughtful credit risk decisions, recommendations, and approvals.
  • Approving, or recommending for approval, LIHTC, NMTC and similar investments.
  • Ensuring conformity with company / group / regulatory policies and procedures; monitoring investment portfolio performance, risk of impairment or loss and risk rating accuracy.
  • Identify and manage portfolio trends, portfolio risks and concentrations within assigned regions, relationships and products.
  • Ensure timely and accurate approvals; portfolio monitoring and reporting, AQR changes and certifications, problem loan management, and non-accrual and loss identification.
  • Bring appropriate team members (inside and outside the LOB) into the deal approval process.
  • Assist the relationship management teams in providing clear and concise recommendations and analysis for distribution up the approval chain.
  • Play an active role in knowing and supporting the customer by attending customer meetings.
  • Develop an expertise in the geography / markets covered by actively participating in the local real estate community and industry organizations.


Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of Credit Risk & Approval or equivalent experience demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education


 


Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and understanding of Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) investment field: low-income housing tax credits, new market tax credits, real estate and private equity investments, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of GSE, FHA and balance sheet multifamily lending products.
  • Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, achieve goals, and work under pressure in a dynamic and complex environment.
  • Proven knowledge of the commercial real estate industry as well as related products and services.
  • Knowledge and experience in the affordable housing industry.    
  • Credit risk management experience with tax credit projects.
  • Consistent success in making sound business and credit decisions.
  • Consistent ability to ensure team member alignment with business strategies and risk appetite.
  • Demonstrated success making deals and building relationships.
  • Understanding of Wells Fargo’s credit culture.
  • Prior workout experience.
  • Existing knowledge of / experience in the major markets and / or business units a plus.
  • Proven ability to work independently and across various LOB in challenging work environments and time frames.


Job Expectations:

  • Ability to work additional hours as needed.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.

  • This position currently offers a hybrid work schedule.

Arizona- Tempe Pay Range: $185,000.00 – 300,000.00 USD Annually

California- San Francisco Pay Range: $185,000.00 – 300,000.00 USD Annually

Iowa- West Des Moines Pay Range: $185,000.00 – 300,000.00 USD Annually

New York- New York Pay Range: $185,000.00 – 300,000.00 USD Annually

North Carolina – Charlotte Pay Range: $185,000.00 – 300,000.00 USD Annually

Minnesota – Minneapolis Pay Range: $185,000.00 – 300,000.00 USD Annually

Missouri-- St Louis Pay Range: $185,000.00 – 300,000.00 USD Annually

Texas--Irving Pay Range: $185,000.00 – 300,000.00 USD Annually
