Color Chemist II

We are looking for a Color Chemist II to join our team. You will report directly to the Project Manager. You will be based onsite at the PPG PJ Plant.

Main Responsibilities

• You will measure and describe differences between colours to make decisions on the approval of colour formulations, field verification, field colour matching.

• To approve colour card matches printed and supplied by outside suppliers for use in the Colour Box that is used daily in the industry and is critical to customer perception of PPG products.

• You will build contacts and relationships with contracted suppliers and motor industry personnel.

• You will support research of new products and colourmatching techniques, including updating and maintence of instrumental colour matching systems, working with personnel from research and development.

• You will train team members in colourmatching practices.

• Active participation in continuous improvement activities in the Colour Team or at a customer location.

• You will need to ensure business targets and demands are met with the assistance of the first line manager.

Qualifications

• Minimum Diploma or higher in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related discipline.

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in color matching

• To be competent in all job tasks carried out by colour technicians and matchers and also:

• Perfect colour vision and reach a minimum standard of colour discrimination.

• The ability to rate the quality of colour matches against set standards in the laboratory or in the field to maintain quality standards.

• The ability to manually match any colour or via use of instrumental techniques and to judge when a target colour cannot be matched within the existing capabilities of a product line and agree a course of action with a colour assessor.

• Effective personal interaction skills and independent motor industry personnel to share information.

• Work competently and unassisted outside the laboratory environment.

• Resilience and sensitivity for cultural differences.

• Work in a team with flexibility, good communication skills and planning skills.

• Educated to “A” level standard with demonstrated ability to work in a laboratory environment

• Good organisation and coordination skills

• You must achieve competency within 12 months.

• Understand EHS initiatives

• Good 5S housekeeping standards
