Job Description

Gilead Sciences is seeking a Senior Counsel to join our team of Legal Business Partners in Liver. The role is located in Foster City, California, reporting to the Associate General Counsel, Liver. The Liver Legal Business Partner is responsible for providing legal support in relation to the development and commercialization of Gilead’s Liver portfolio and other investigational assets. 

Job Responsibilities

  • The primary clients for this role include personnel in Commercial, Medical, Public Affairs, Government Affairs, Finance, and Regulatory. The Legal Business Partner team, where this attorney will sit, works closely with colleagues in Compliance, Privacy, US Pricing & Access, Competition Law, Regulatory, and other groups to ensure the compliant commercialization of our product.

  • The Legal Business partner will provide legal input on US Commercial strategies and tactics related to promotional and educational activities, engagements with healthcare providers, patients, patient organizations, and other entities, and other applications of healthcare and commercial law and regulatory compliance in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry.

  • The Legal Business Partner will provide legal training to field and home office Gilead personnel and external consultants, including large group public speaking.

  • This position requires a proactive, problem-solving mindset, and a high degree of collaboration with internal clients and colleagues. This role also requires the ability to manage various issues, projects and initiatives simultaneously across geographies and cultures, and the ability to exercise mature and reliable judgment, while enjoying the company’s enthusiastic, patient-focused, and fast-paced environment.

  • This position requires a team player that is self-motivated, able to successfully resolve challenging legal issues and able to effectively deliver sound and clear legal advice in a business setting; ability to work well with other Legal team members and build consensus among various stakeholders while maintaining a compliant approach.

Basic Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate or equivalent advanced degree

  •  6 + years of experience practicing in a law firm or inhouse legal department

Preferred Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate from a nationally recognized law school

  • Be a member in good standing of the State Bar of California, or have the ability to acquire status of Registered In-House Counsel from the California State Bar or gain admission from the California State Bar within 90 days 

  • 6+ years of experience providing legal counsel on the laws and regulations relating to drugs or devices, demonstrating growth and ability to succeed

  • Exceptional and demonstrated written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Be resourceful, flexible and willing to engage in a wide variety of tasks and responsibilities

  • Detail-oriented and well-organized

  • Willingness to travel periodically within the U.S

The salary range for this position is: $226,185.00 - $292,710.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans*.
