Job Description

About the Role:

Grade Level (for internal use):

13

The Role

We are seeking a senior, hands-on Team Lead to drive the update, monitoring, testing, and governance of S&P Global Market Intelligence Scorecards (PD/LGD credit risk models). You will lead a Hyderabad-based team responsible for ensuring models remain accurate, stable, well-controlled, and audit-ready—aligned to regulatory and industry best practices (Basel/IRB, IFRS 9, CECL).

The Team

The Scorecards team delivers credit risk solutions to clients globally, including PD/LGD models, analytical support, training, and credit risk assessment. The U&M team in Hyderabad owns the operational excellence of Scorecards through controlled model maintenance, performance monitoring, and disciplined change management.

The Impact

Scorecards is a high-growth, high-margin global analytics business. Our models are used by credit-sensitive institutions as internal rating systems to support: Capital and impairment calculations, Origination and portfolio monitoring, Risk-based pricing and investment decisions. In this role, you will ensure our credit risk models continue to meet client needs and supervisory expectations as portfolios, data, and economic conditions evolve.

Key Responsibilities

You will lead the U&M function end-to-end across people leadership, model performance testing, maintenance execution, data controls, and governance.

Team Leadership & Delivery Management: Lead a team of analysts and testing specialists; set clear expectations for analytical rigor, documentation quality, and governance discipline. Plan and prioritize the U&M roadmap (monitoring cycles, recalibration activities, client deliverables, and change releases). Partner closely with Scorecards model development, product, and technology teams to ensure controlled implementation of model and system updates. Coach team members on best practices in model risk management, review work products, and drive continuous improvement.

Model Performance Monitoring & Testing: Own ongoing performance monitoring and periodic recalibration activities to maintain model accuracy, stability, and interpretability. Oversee and review testing such as: back-testing and stability tracking, benchmarking / challenger comparisons, sensitivity and reasonableness analysis, stress and scenario testing under changing macro conditions. Define and maintain monitoring metrics, thresholds, and escalation triggers; ensure issues are investigated, documented, and remediated.

Model Maintenance, Client Support & Reporting: Coordinate responses to client queries, model review requests, and third-party assessments related to model monitoring and performance. Prepare and present periodic performance and monitoring reporting for internal stakeholders and senior leadership. Ensure deliverables are consistent, defensible, and aligned with documented methodology and governance standards.

Model Governance & Change Control: Establish and maintain a robust monitoring framework including: performance thresholds, early warning indicators, and remediation protocols. Govern the model change process end-to-end: impact assessments, evidence gathering, documentation review, testing sign-off, and approval workflows. Ensure governance artifacts are audit-ready: clear rationale, versioning, approvals, and traceability.

Data Quality, Lineage & Controls: Oversee data integrity for model inputs and monitoring datasets, including reconciliation, lineage, and audit traceability. Ensure robust data quality controls (completeness, validity, consistency, timeliness) and clear ownership for remediation. Partner with data/technology teams to address upstream data issues and prevent recurrence.

What We’re Looking For

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in a quantitative discipline (Statistics, Mathematics, Econometrics, Finance, Engineering, Computer/Data Science, or similar).

  • 15+ years of experience in credit risk modelling and/or model risk management, including meaningful time in governance/oversight roles and demonstrated people leadership.

  • Strong knowledge of supervisory expectations and industry best practices across Basel/IRB, IFRS 9, and CECL, including: governance, documentation, effective challenge, testing, change control, and ongoing monitoring.

  • Familiarity with S&P Global Ratings criteria and the shadow rating approach.

Preferred:

  • Experience with internal rating systems used for capital/impairments and model lifecycle governance in regulated institutions.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional delivery with model development, technology, and product stakeholders.

  • Strong executive-level communication skills—able to explain technical findings clearly to non-technical audiences.

Why This Role

This is a leadership opportunity in a fast-growing global analytics business, with exposure to senior risk stakeholders at leading financial institutions and responsibility for ensuring our models remain trusted, compliant, and performant over time.
