Description of Work

The Assistant Judicial Division Director (AJDD) oversees the coordination and management of programs and operations for Judicial District Managers within the assigned Judicial Division. This role includes reviewing and monitoring budget expenditures, as well as contributing to budget expansion requests. Additionally, the AJDD handles various human resources responsibilities, such as interviewing and selecting candidates, coaching and mentoring staff, conducting training, evaluating performance, and administering disciplinary actions when necessary.

Position is also responsible for:
• Planning, directing, and overseeing the administrative and programmatic functions of a Judicial Division, including budgeting and all aspects of field operations
• Contributing to the development of both short- and long-term goals for the division and ensuring their successful execution
• Supervising Judicial District Managers and assuming their duties in their absence
• Managing Divisional matters in the absence of the Judicial Division Director
• Initiating and delegating investigations as needed
• Performing on-site audits to assess district caseloads, as well as equipment and supply inventories
• Monitoring and enforcing compliance with all policies and procedures
• Maintaining professional relationships with law enforcement, colleagues, agency staff, stakeholders, offenders, and the general public
• Demonstrating professionalism and emotional resilience when confronted with verbal or mental abuse from offenders or during crises, emergencies, or other high-stress situations
• Using sound independent judgment to determine appropriate actions related to personnel and program matters

The AJDD must be available to work a flexible schedule, including standard hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and respond to emergencies as needed. Due to the nature of the role, which may involve extensive travel and frequent overnight stays, the incumbent must be legally authorized and physically able to operate a motor vehicle safely for extended periods, both during the day and at night, and in adverse weather conditions.

This position description is not all-inclusive, and supervisor may delegate and assign other duties to position as needed.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Range: $70,478.00-$123,336.00

  • Thorough Knowledge of the objectives, techniques and regulations of Community Supervision operations; this includes working with personnel and budgeting procedures, Justice Reinvestment Act and Evidence Based Practices
  • Working knowledge of investigating and recommending action/actions related to various types of personnel matters, such as employee discipline, EEO complaints or grievance resolution
  • Effective working relationships with court officials, management, supervisors, coworkers, departmental personnel, and community members
  • Demonstrated experience leading a team and managing resources to provide an effective community corrections/supervision program
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills; experience communicating with high-level stakeholders and partners such as department Leadership, Legislators, judges, and similar

This position is Exempt Managerial and is EXEMPT from certain provisions of the State Human Resources Act (GS 126).


This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with benefits. **Applicants must pass a background check to be eligible for this job.**

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of experience in corrections plus an additional two years of experience in community supervision management (6 years minimum of related experience); or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

The Bachelor's degree is a requirement. There is no equivalency for the four-year degree requirement based on N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.


Necessary Special Qualifications: Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
