Job Description

The Finance Solutions Architect will own the design, delivery, and ongoing evolution of the finance data warehouse, acting as both solution architect and product owner. This role bridges Finance and Technology, ensuring that data models, pipelines, and reporting solutions meet business needs while remaining scalable, governed, and efficient.

Working with a lean team (1 BI Business Analyst), the role requires strong hands-on involvement across architecture, prioritisation, and delivery.

Key responsibilities

1. Product Ownership & Strategy

  • Define and own the product vision and roadmap for the finance data warehouse

  • Prioritise the backlog in line with finance strategy (e.g. reporting, regulatory, performance insights)

  • Act as the primary interface with Finance stakeholders (Group Finance, FP&A, Tax, Actuarial, etc.)

  • Translate business requirements into clear, actionable delivery items

  • Manage trade-offs between scope, timelines, and technical constraints

2. Solution Architecture

  • Design and maintain the end-to-end data architecture for the finance data warehouse

  • Define data models aligned to finance processes (e.g. GL, sub-ledgers, consolidation, reporting)

  • Ensure alignment to enterprise architecture, data governance, and security standards

  • Guide decisions on data ingestion, transformation, storage, and semantic layers

  • Ensure solutions are scalable, performant, and cost-efficient

3. Data & Reporting Enablement

  • Enable delivery of trusted, reconciled, and auditable finance data

  • Oversee development of data marts and reporting layers for BI consumption

  • Ensure consistency across management, statutory, and regulatory reporting

  • Drive automation and reduction of manual finance processes

4. Delivery Leadership (Lean Team)

  • Work closely with the BI Business Analyst to:

    • Refine requirements

    • Define data logic and transformations

    • Validate outputs with business stakeholders

  • Act as a player-coach – hands-on where required (data modelling, SQL, logic design)

  • Coordinate with broader tech teams (data engineering, infrastructure, vendors if applicable)

5. Governance & Controls

  • Ensure strong data governance, lineage, and auditability

  • Embed financial controls into data processes (reconciliations, validations)

  • Support audit and regulatory requirements through transparent data structures

6. Stakeholder Management

  • Build strong relationships with:

    • Finance leadership

    • IT / Data platform teams

    • External vendors (if applicable)

  • Communicate clearly on delivery progress, risks, and decisions required

Key Outputs

  • Finance data warehouse architecture blueprint

  • Prioritised and actively managed product backlog

  • Delivery of high-quality, reconciled finance data assets

  • Scalable and governed data models and pipelines

  • Clear documentation (data definitions, lineage, business rules)

Requirements: Skills, Qualifications and Experience required

  • Professional qualification with at least 5 years’ experience in overseeing or being part of a team that manages data and reporting solutions.

  • Technologies: SQL, PowerBI, Data Warehousing, Tabular cubes, Microsoft Master Data Services, DAX. Exposure to AWS, data lake architecture and json would be advantageous.

  • Methodologies: DAMA, DCAM, Kimball

  • Tertiary qualification in Information Systems, or related field

  • Attention to detail

  • Solution focused with the ability to troubleshoot issues

  • Team management

  • Understanding of Agile methodology

  • Appreciation for internal controls and governance processes

  • Advantageous: analytical and BI experience in financial reporting
