Controls Project Engineer – Johnson Controls

What you will do
As a Controls Project Engineer, you will manage the technical delivery of Building Management and HVAC Controls projects from initial design through to project closeout. You will ensure that system designs meet customer requirements, support the project manager with planning and execution, and act as the primary technical interface between engineering teams, subcontractors, and the client.
You will help shape project scope, oversee engineering deliverables, ensure quality standards are met, and guide control system implementation so that Johnson Controls delivers efficient, reliable, and futureready solutions.
How you will do it
Review project specifications, drawings, and control strategies, ensuring all technical requirements are clearly defined and achievable.
Support the project manager in developing project plans, timelines, design reviews, risk assessments, and technical documentation.
Prepare and coordinate engineering deliverables, including control panel layouts, control schematics, points lists, I/O schedules, and system architecture designs.
Work with internal software and commissioning teams to ensure control sequences, graphics packages, and network configurations align with project intent.
Oversee subcontractor installation quality, ensuring compliance with designs, standards, and safety requirements.
Provide technical direction during installation and integration phases, resolving design queries and coordinating across M&E contractors and stakeholders.
Participate in factory acceptance tests, design signoffs, and key project milestones; support commissioning teams by ensuring design clarity and resolving technical escalations.
Track engineering progress, maintain accurate documentation, and support project reporting and change management processes.
Proactively identify design or scope gaps, proposing solutions that maintain project integrity and customer satisfaction.
Ensure all work adheres to Johnson Controls quality processes, industry standards, and health & safety regulations.
What we look for
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Building Services, or equivalent technical qualifications.
Experience in building controls, HVAC controls, or automation engineering, with strong understanding of BMS system design and project delivery.
Ability to interpret and develop engineering drawings, schematics, and control strategies.
Strong technical knowledge of HVAC plant, control sequences, electrical/control circuits, and field devices.
Experience coordinating with contractors, suppliers, and internal engineering/commissioning teams.
Excellent communication, planning, and documentation skills.
Strong problem solving ability and confidence managing technical elements of complex projects.
Familiarity with BMS protocols (BACnet, Modbus, LON) and IT/networking fundamentals is an advantage.
Industry standard health & safety certification (Safe Pass or equivalent).
