The role owns governed business metric definitions and ensures consistent semantic modeling across reporting solutions. In addition, the role provides operational support for the semantic and reporting layers, ensuring performance, reliability, and continuity of analytics services.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership & Planning

  • Define and standardize governed business metrics and calculation logic within semantic models.

  • Align semantic modeling practices with enterprise data governance standards.

  • Support structured enhancement planning for semantic and reporting improvements.

Project Oversight & System Ownership

  • Design and develop semantic layers.

  • Develop complex SQL queries and pyspark data transformations supporting semantic models.

  • Build and maintain Power BI datasets aligned to governed semantic models.

  • Optimize DAX measures, calculated columns, and model relationships.

  • Ensure semantic models are sourced from approved Redshift, Databricks, and Athena datasets.

  • Maintain documentation of metric definitions, transformation logic, and semantic structures.

Operations & Compliance

  • Monitor production semantic models and Power BI dataset performance and consumption.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve SQL, Tabular Model, and dataset performance issues.

  • Perform root cause analysis for reporting discrepancies related to semantic logic.

  • Maintain runbooks and operational documentation for semantic and reporting layers.

  • Validate semantic outputs when upstream data platform changes occur.

Team Leadership

  • Promote consistent metric definitions and modeling standards across BI teams.
  • Share SQL and semantic optimization best practices.

Cross- functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with BA/BI developers to ensure accurate consumption and representation of business metrics.

  • Coordinate with architecture teams on performance improvements and data source alignment.

  • Communicate with business stakeholders regarding metric definitions and changes.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field is required.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in SQL development and semantic modeling.

  • Hands- on experience developing SSAS/AAS Tabular models and Power BI datasets.

  • Experience supporting production analytics environments.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Advanced SQL development (query optimization, joins, aggregations, stored procedures).

  • SSAS Tabular modeling and development.

  • DAX development and optimization.

  • Power BI dataset architecture and performance tuning.

  • Understanding of Redshift, Databricks, and Athena as upstream data sources. Experience working with AWS- based data platforms such as Redshift and Databricks.

  • Production support and troubleshooting skills.

  • Strong documentation discipline and metric governance awareness.
