Role : Solution Architect -Connected Worker

Job description (high level summary): The Solution Architect will own the strategy, prioritization, and internal commercialization of Connected Worker ensuring effective management of capacity and work deliverables. This role involves driving technological innovation and aligning ITOF initiatives with business goals.

Responsibilities will include:

 Solution Design & Architecture

  • Define the overall architecture for Connected Worker platforms (hardware, software, network).
  • Ensure integration with existing enterprise systems (ERP, MES, EHS, Asset Management).
  • Design scalable, secure, and compliant solutions aligned with industry standards.

Technology Evaluation & Selection

  • Assess and recommend wearable devices, IoT sensors, AR/VR tools, and mobile applications.
  • Evaluate connectivity options (Wi-Fi, LTE/5G, BLE) for remote sites.

Integration & Interoperability

  • Develop strategies for integrating Connected Worker solutions with OT/IT systems.
  • Ensure interoperability between different vendors and technologies.

Cybersecurity & Data Governance

  • Implement security protocols for data transmission and storage.
  • Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations and company policies.

Use Case Development

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to identify and prioritize use cases (e.g., digital permits, remote assistance, shift handover, safety alerts).
  • Translate business requirements into technical specifications.

Deployment & Scalability

  • Create deployment roadmaps for pilot and full-scale rollouts.
  • Optimize solutions for multi-site, global operations.

Performance Monitoring & Optimization

  • Define KPIs for solution effectiveness (uptime, adoption, safety improvements).
  • Continuously improve architecture based on feedback and analytics.

Vendor & Stakeholder Management

  • Work with technology vendors, system integrators, and internal teams.
  • Act as a bridge between IT, OT, and business units.

Innovation & Future Readiness

  • Stay updated on emerging technologies (AI, digital twins, edge computing).
  • Recommend enhancements for long-term digital transformation.
  • Drive product development of embedded gateways with both local and remote teams for new features and functionalities, working to provide innovative platforms, architecture and designs for full lifecycle, from specification through final manufacture and end of product life.
  • Take active part in fire system’s commercial new product development, including requirement analysis, feasibility study, architecture design, software implementation, testing and debugging
  • Work with external ODM/OEM supplier or 3rd party vendor to develop product.
  • Develop and implement the strategy for IIoT within the organization.
  • Prioritize and manage the internal commercialization of IIoT.
  • Oversee the capacity planning and work deliverables related to IIoT.
  • Lead and mentor a team of IT professionals, providing guidance and support.
  •  Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
  •  Ensure the scalability, reliability, and security of IIoT Platform implementations.
  • Monitor and report on the performance and effectiveness of IIoT.
  •  Stay updated with the latest trends and advancements in IIoT.
  •  Manage vendor relationships and negotiate contracts related to IIoT.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor/master’s degree with 6-8 years on computer Science, Electronics and Communication.
  • At least 11+ years solid experience Embedded product design and development with 6+ years focus on CW.

Technical Architecture & Leadership

  • Provide technical mentorship to engineering teams and research scientists
  • Establish best practices for RTLS security, SSO, device management, and data governance
  • Review technical designs and architecture from development teams
  • Proven track record of delivering large-scale CW/Automation solutions from concept to production.

Technical Expertise

  • Building Domain Expertise: Extensive experience with sensors, location services, and environmental controls
  • Connectivity Protocols: Proficiency in building automation protocols (BACnet, Modbus, KNX, etc..), IoT protocols (MQTT, CoAP, etc..) and wireless protocols (ZigBee, LoRa WAN, Thread, etc.
  • Cloud Platforms: Experience with major cloud providers (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud)
  • Edge Computing: Knowledge of edge analytics, fog computing, and distributed processing architectures
  • Security: Understanding of security frameworks, device authentication, P564 and data encryption

Key Competencies:

  • Direct experience of deploying Location services, Lone worker protection, Gen AI, Hydration sensors, and system development of small and large teams.
  • Knowledge of end-to-end system design, platform and product line design and architecture
  • Excellent analytical and problems solving skills
  • Experienced with Docker, Azure Kubernetes Service, and Linux containers.
  • Knowledgeable in virtualization deployment and lifecycle management.
  • Proficient with Azure IoT Hub, Shift Handover, LoRa WAN Network Servers, MQTT/Sparkplug B, Ignition, and Aveva PI.
  • Strong programming skills Python, Java, etc.)
  • Data modelling and database design expertise
  • API design and microservices architecture
  •  Experienced with Azure Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and connectivity.
  •  Knowledgeable in device management, connectivity, and CMMS (Maximo, S4HANA, ServiceNow).
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, including communication of platforms, technologies, architectures and designs.
  • Collaboration with stakeholders, product owners, and cross functional team
  • Experience in research environments and technology commercialization
  • Strategic thinking about market trends and competitive landscape

Preferred Certifications

• Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ‑305)

• AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Associate or Professional)

• TOGAF (Enterprise Architecture)

• ISA/IEC 62443 Cybersecurity Certifications

Chevron ENGINE supports global operations, supporting business requirements across the world. Accordingly, the work hours for employees will be aligned to support business requirements. The standard work week will be Monday to Friday. Working hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm or 1.30pm to 10.30pm.
