The Senior Staff Scientist, Molecular Biology is responsible for conceiving, developing, and implementing innovative molecular biology and synthetic biology solutions at scale. This role combines deep hands-on scientific expertise with strategic technical leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and mentorship. The position plays a critical role in advancing core technology platforms, enabling new products and services, and driving scientific and commercial impact across the organization.

This position reports to the Director of Emerging Technologies and is part of the Emerging Technologies Team located in Sunnyvale, CA and will be an on-site role.  

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Lead the conception, design, and implementation of novel molecular biology workflows, with emphasis on DNA/RNA manipulation, gene synthesis, library construction, and amplification technologies.
  • Leverage your breadth of expertise to deliver transformative capabilities for IDT's oligo synthesis platforms, from initial ideation to implementation in a manufacturing environment.
  • Drive the development of next-generation synthetic biology and nucleic acid technologies, from proof-of-concept through robust, scalable processes.
  • Translate scientific innovation into commercially viable platforms, products, or services.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • Bachelor's in molecular biology, biochemistry, microbiology, or a related discipline. (PhD preferred)
  • 7+ years industry experience in molecular biology, synthetic biology, or related biotech fields.
  • Deep hands-on expertise in DNA/RNA manipulation, gene synthesis, cloning, library construction, and amplification technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and scale complex molecular biology processes.
  • Proven track record of scientific innovation, including patents and peer-reviewed publications.
     

Travel & Physical/Environment Requirements:

  • Ability to travel 10% time domestic and international
  • Ability to occasionally lift, move or carry equipment up to 10lb
  • Ability to frequently work in a laboratory environment for extended periods

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

  • Background in high-throughput biology, automation, and NGS-based analysis.
  • Familiarity with bioinformatics tools and sequence analysis workflows.
  • Demonstrated success in translating research innovations into revenue-generating products or services.

The annual salary range OR the hourly range for this role is $160,000-$200,000. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. This range may be modified in the future.

This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
