A Brief Overview
Aetna is seeking a dynamic and strategic Contracting Lead Director to join our National Clinical Vendor Solutions team. The Lead Director is responsible for strategic leadership and execution of vendor management and contracting activities that support growth and innovation while aligning with enterprise priorities. The ideal candidate will bring a strong blend of strategic thinking, relationship management, and operational execution.

You will make an impact by:

  • Strategic Planning: Supports the development and implementation of comprehensive vendor management and contracting strategies aligned with organizational goals and objectives. Provides strategic direction to support growth and innovation of delegated and non-delegated vendors and point solutions while ensuring alignment with enterprise priorities.

  • Vendor Relationship Management: Cultivate and manage executive-level relationships with clinical vendor partners. Serve as a trusted advisor and strategic thought partner to drive mutual growth and innovation with multi-year strategic plans

  • Contract Lifecycle Management: Oversees the full vendor contract lifecycle, including negotiation/execution, onboarding, ongoing contract management, performance monitoring, renewals, amendments, and contract closeout. Ensures contracts are operationally ready and executable, enabling delivery of intended financial, operational, and clinical outcomes.

  • Risk Management: Identifies, assesses, and mitigates financial, operational, regulatory, and compliance risks associated with vendor relationships and contractual arrangements. Partners with legal, compliance, and finance teams to proactively address risk and ensure sustainable.

  • Financial Modeling & Contracting: Collaborate with finance, analytics, legal and actuarial teams to design and validate financial models that support scalable arrangements. Lead contract negotiations to ensure alignment with enterprise goals and financial assumptions

  • Policy, Procedure, and Compliance Oversight: Develops, implements, and maintains policies, procedures, and best practices related to vendor management and contracting. Ensures compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal governance standards

  • Cross-Functional Execution: Partner with Network, Line of Business Segments, Clinical, and Operations teams to ensure timely deployment and operationalization of contracts.

  • Internal Collaboration & Communication:. Serve as a strategic connector across cross‑functional stakeholders—including product, analytics, operations, reimbursement, and leadership teams—to drive alignment and execution of strategic initiatives. Lead clear communication, education, and awareness to ensure shared understanding, adoption, and sustained engagement.

For this role you will need Minimum Requirements

  • 7 to 10+ years of experience preferably in Vendor, Payer and/or Provider Value based care or related.
  • 5+ years of contract negotiations, ideally with a focus on clinical vendors.
  • Experience in risk financial models.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning and execution and contracting strategies.
  • Proven ability to lead cross‑functional initiatives to drive execution and results.
  • Experience managing complex, multi‑stakeholder initiatives, including contract implementation, operational readiness, and performance oversight.
  • Strong financial acumen, including experience with risk‑based financial models, ROI analysis, and translating financial assumptions into executable contract terms.
  • Exceptional communication and influencing skills, with the ability to educate, align, and engage stakeholders and external partners.
  • Experience operating in regulated environments, with working knowledge of healthcare regulatory, compliance, and governance requirements.

Education:

Bachelor's degree in business administration, supply chain management, or a related field is typically required and/or equivalent experience 

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$100,000.00 - $231,540.00


This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls.  The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors.  This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.  This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
