About the Role (Job Summary):

Reporting to the Vice President, National Category Management/Private Brand, this role is responsible for developing McKesson Canada’s Own Brand strategy and delivering a robust portfolio for our McKesson customers to leverage for patient care. This individual will work with the Category Management team to align on new items, SKU lists and delists that are tied to an overall strategy to ensure an innovative yet customer relevant assortment that is optimal for the pharmacy retail customer base which McKesson serves. This role will establish the brand quality standards and ensure that suppliers are meeting our expectations, foster relationships with our vendor community to ensure partnerships and winning strategies as well as work cross functionally from an internal standpoint to support the overall management around inventory levels, packaging, products recall and holds. This role will require collaboration with our internal marketing, procurement and sales account teams as well as external customers in order to meet KPI’s related to private label penetration, top line sales and profitability in addition to customer satisfaction metrics.

             

What You’ll Do (Responsibilities):

  • Accountable for the development of the private label budget and meeting the targets set as part of the McKesson Canada budget process (revenue, volume, expenses, AOP).

  • Accountable for the overall economics as it relates to cost, pricing, and margin. Collaborate with internal team to ensure at shelf retails and gap vs NBE is captured to reflect value proposition to the consumer.

  • Joint accountability with category management and sales account teams on planning of sales driving activities and development of communication documents in order to meet and exceed top line sales budget. Plan corrective action where monthly results lag behind expectations.

  • Accountable for the own brand product development pipeline, innovation at the forefront while ensuring the overall assortment is productive in terms of turns through the McKesson DC’s.

  • Liaise with own brand marketing to ensure packaging is consumer centric, NBE equivalent and aligned with brand guidelines.

  • Ensure that private label brands stay aligned to government standards and regulations.

  • Formalize processes around all new product quality control testing and standards, maintain brand positioning and integrity of the McKesson brands by abiding to all of the guidelines of our logo and trademarks.

  • Liaise with McKesson QA and Regulatory in partnership with vendors to ensure the Quality Assurance processes, procedures and standards for own brand is compliant and where issues are raised, action planned, and executed accordingly.

  • Liaise with internal teams to ensure supply and forecasts are accurate. Address and action aging inventory and support QA to ensure that all vendor QA requirements are met and accurate. Address supply shortages and action plan accordingly to mitigate impacts to customers through proactive communication and fair share mindset.

  • Actively participate in all category reviews to represent the position of private brands and the balance of the NB vs OB in each planogram. Identifying categories where own brand has a right to win and develop collaborative strategies to execute.

  • Ensure clarity and timeliness of communication between own brand team, McKesson stakeholders and customers regarding new products; with respect to transportation, sourcing and quality control.

  • Review, update, and develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), and other policies for internal team where required.

  • Work with sourcing partners to identify new vendors, assess their manufacturing and distribution capabilities; ensure all legal regulations are followed and that we can obtain the best possible net cost of goods and consistent supply.

  • Ability to collect, analyze, interpret, and organize data for management review, including defining problems, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions.

  • Engage with internal and external partners and stakeholders to ensure cross functional collaboration to deliver overall portfolio success metrics.

Administration/Miscellaneous:

  • Participate in financial review – prepare insights on successes and opportunities.

  • Oversee communications to stakeholder groups and customers.

  • Respond promptly and efficiently to all stakeholder inquires to address any issues.

  • Travel as required to support interactions with vendors, customers and participate in events.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

People Leadership/Development:

  • Provide leadership, coaching, and development to direct reports.

  • Develop and coach the support team to prepare individuals for growth and advancement as opportunities arise within the team and across the enterprise.

    Identify, coach, and develop future leadership of team.

Basic Requirements:

  • University Degree in relevant discipline.

  • 10-12 years' experience in Category Management/Product Development.

  • Minimum 5 years' relevant private label experience in a Manager/Product Development/Category Manager role.

  • 7-10 years of people management and development experience.

  • Financial analysis and planning skills.

  • MS Office proficient – PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook – advanced Excel is an asset.

  • Strong business acumen, ability to see big picture while juggling details.

  • Exceptional problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Superior organizational skills.

  • Strong leadership, coaching and mentoring skills.

  • Excellent strategic planning and negotiation skills.

  • Ability to effectively liaise with key stakeholders, McKesson senior leadership, and vendor partners.

Preferred Skills/Experience: 

  • Retail operations experience an asset.

  • Bilingual (English/French) preferred, but not required.
