Job Description
About Radiant
Radiant is an El Segundo, CA-based startup building the world’s first mass-produced, portable nuclear microreactors. The company’s first reactor, Kaleidos, is a 1-megawatt, fail-safe microreactor that can be transported anywhere power is needed and run for up to 5 years without refueling. Portable nuclear power with rapid-deploy capability can replace similar-sized diesel generators and provide critical asset support for hospitals, data centers, remote sites, and military bases. Radiant’s unique, practical approach to nuclear development leverages modern software engineering to rapidly deliver safe, factory-built microreactors that use existing, well-qualified materials. Founded in 2020, Radiant is on track to test its first reactor at the Idaho National Laboratory this summer, with initial customer deliveries beginning in 2028.
About the Role
Radiant is seeking an early career Electrical Engineer with a focus on PCB design to support the development of electrical systems for terrestrial reactor control, with a long-term path toward space reactor applications. In this role, you will work closely with senior engineers to design, build, and test high-reliability, low-noise printed circuit boards used in reactor instrumentation and control systems. You will contribute across the full PCB development lifecycle—from schematic capture and layout to bring-up and validation—while gaining hands-on experience with mixed-signal systems, data acquisition, and real-time control hardware. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated engineer to develop deep expertise in PCB design, signal integrity, and hardware development in a highly technical, mission-critical environment.
Responsibilities and Duties
Support the design and development of multilayer PCBs for reactor control and instrumentation systems.
Assist with schematic capture, component selection, and PCB layout under guidance from senior engineers.
Contribute to mixed-signal designs, including analog front ends, power distribution, and digital interfaces.
Apply best practices for signal integrity, power integrity, grounding, and EMI/EMC considerations in layouts.
Participate in board bring-up, debugging, and lab testing using standard instrumentation (e.g., oscilloscopes, multimeters).
Help execute hardware validation and test plans, including functional and performance testing.
Collaborate with firmware, FPGA, DSP, and responsible engineers to support hardware/software integration.
Document designs, test results, and engineering changes clearly and thoroughly.
Required Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
Internship, academic project, or hands-on experience with PCB design or electronics development.
Familiarity with schematic capture and PCB layout tools (e.g., Altium, Cadence, KiCad, or similar).
Basic understanding of analog and digital circuits, including common interfaces (SPI, I2C, UART).
Foundational knowledge of signal integrity, grounding, and noise considerations.
Experience working in a lab environment and using basic test equipment.
Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn in a fast-paced engineering environment.
Desired Qualifications and Skills
Exposure to mixed-signal or low-noise circuit design through coursework or projects.
Experience with PCB layout for multilayer boards or high-speed signals (academic or internship).
Familiarity with embedded systems, microcontrollers, or FPGA basics.
Interest in high-reliability or regulated industries (nuclear, aerospace, defense, or industrial systems).
Understanding of basic design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for test (DFT) concepts.
