What you’ll be doing
Global Operational and Enterprise Risk Management (GOERM) is responsible for the oversight of all enterprise-wide operational risks globally and establishes and provides an independent risk perspective and ongoing strategic direction for various enterprise risk functions, while providing overall leadership to risk-wide business management and transformation activities.
As the Manager, Environmental Credit Risk Management within GOERM, you will also be responsible for embedding environmental risk insights into enterprise-wide decision making through the development of applicable risk policies/standards and the development of mitigation strategies. You will be responsible for evaluating environmental and related social risk exposures within CIBC’s credit activities.
The Manager, Environmental Credit Risk Management will assist and participate in the implementation of corporate environmental programs internal to CIBC aimed at ensuring responsible environmental conduct through the implementation of sound environmental practices. You may also be called upon to assist in the development and management of CIBC-wide environmental governance and compliance programs.
Administer policies to address environmental and social (E&S) risks inherent in lending activities, and work closely with risk and relationship managers to further develop processes to mitigate risks and reduce potential losses.
Serve as a contact to risk and relationship managers for environmental and related social credit risk management transactional assessments.
Evaluate E&S risk inherent and residual in individual and/or syndicated credit transactions, and advise credit risk colleagues on mitigation actions to minimize E&S risk.
Provide technical expertise in the evaluation of client environmental risks. These activities result in the direct provision of guidance and support in the structuring of credits in order to protect CIBC from unacceptable levels of environmental risk.
Develop recommendations for modifications to internal environmental risk evaluations, as needed, to manage environmental risk exposures.
Serve as secondary CIBC contact to external organizations/agencies related to the evaluation of credit and reputation risks arising from environmental and social issues.
Help to develop and deliver training relating to E&S issues and risk management.
Consistent with CIBC Records Management Policy, manage the maintenance and analysis of database information related to all credit transactions for which Environmental Credit Risk Management support has been provided.

Represent CIBC on industry committees and working groups established to develop standards that support the assessment of environmental risks and interact with environmental risk managers and peers at other major financial institutions for the purpose of exchanging information and collaborating on industry initiatives.

Who you are
You can demonstrate 5 years of experience, in environmental site assessment with a working knowledge of related industry-wide environmental policies and best practices. Experience with environmental and social assessments conducted for large-scale development projects would be an asset.
You have a degree/diploma in preferably Engineering, Science or related field. It’s an asset if you’re fluent in French.
