Position Overview
Reporting to the Manager of Business Support, the Capex Analyst is a key member of the Finance organization, providing financial support to Store Operations, Marketing, Strategy, Human Resources, Merchandising, Real Estate, and Legal.The Business Support team leads critical financial processes, including month-end journal entries and supporting workpapers, annual budget development, and accurate monthly forecasting. In doing so, the team is also responsible for preparing detailed variance analyses and presenting actionable insights to senior leadership across Finance and operational functions. In addition, the team provides ad-hoc financial modeling and business case support as needed.
The responsibilities of this role include working with the operational departments in developing accurate capex budgets and monthly capex forecasts; preparing capital expenditure requisitions (CERs) and return on investment (ROI) calculations for capex projects; overseeing the procurement process (Purchase Order creation and invoice matching) for capital projects; leading month-end close accrual entries; preparing detailed variance analyses and presenting forecast updates to senior leadership.
The ideal candidate is highly analytical, detail-oriented, and skilled at translating complex financial data into clear, concise insights that inform decision-making and drive business performance. High degree of familiarity with general financial planning and analysis processes and tools is a must.
A Day in the Life
Financial Planning and Analysis functions – Oversee the development of the annual capex budgets, by project, for various departments, and development of accurate monthly capex forecasts by project.
Capital Expenditure Requisition (CER) functions – Oversee the CER process for the operational departments, including presenting the CERs to the Capital Expenditure Committee for approval.
Return on Investment (ROI) functions – Oversee the ROI process for applicable capital projects. This includes working with the operational departments, and Strategy in order to track costs and calculate the ROI.
Month-end Close functions – Oversee and review the month-end close process for capex, including accounting journal entries. In addition, this position will be responsible for preparing detailed variance analyses, by capital project.
Stakeholder Engagement – Present annual budgets, monthly forecast updates, ROI metrics to various members of senior leadership within Finance and the operational departments. This person must be able to demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as having the ability to translate complex financial data into clear, actionable insights.
You'll Come With
Education: BA/BS degree in Accounting, Finance or Business is required; MBA a plus
Experience: Minimum 2-3 years related Accounting/Finance
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong financial analytical skills; advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint required
- High comfort level working in ambiguous, rapidly changing environments and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to communicate complex findings clearly and succinctly, both verbally and written, and lead presentations to senior-level executives.
- High degree of reliability including accountability for daily, weekly, and long-term projects.
