Senior Manager, Compliance - JLL

What this job involves: As a Senior Manager, Compliance at JLL, you'll oversee compliance programs at our Research and Development client site in Ashburn, Virginia. In this role, you'll ensure our facilities operations align with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and client expectations while leading a team of three professionals — a Facilities Asset Supervisor, Facilities Business Operations Supervisor, and Facilities Program Lead. We believe the most effective teams are built when everyone is empowered to thrive, and you'll play a key role in creating that environment. You'll translate complex regulatory requirements into practical guidance for facilities operations, conduct risk assessments, and partner with site leadership to maintain the highest standards of safety and compliance. This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact at a critical R&D site while advancing your expertise in facilities compliance within one of the world's leading commercial real estate services firms.

What your day-to-day will look like:

  • Lead and develop a team of three direct reports, including a Facilities Asset Supervisor, Facilities Business Operations Supervisor, and Facilities Program Lead, fostering their professional growth and operational excellence
  • Develop, implement, and maintain site-specific compliance policies, procedures, and training programs that address regulatory requirements for Research and Development facilities, including environmental, health, and safety standards
  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments of facilities operations to identify compliance vulnerabilities and work collaboratively with site leadership to develop and execute corrective action plans
  • Serve as the primary compliance liaison between JLL operations and the client, ensuring alignment with both client requirements and regulatory mandates specific to R&D environments
  • Maintain operational and regulatory compliance across the residential and campus life scopes
  • Oversee compliance monitoring activities across facilities operations, analyzing results to identify trends, systemic issues, and opportunities for process improvement in asset management and program delivery
  • Manage relationships with local regulatory bodies, environmental agencies, and safety inspectors to maintain strong partnerships and stay ahead of compliance developments affecting the site
  • Lead investigations into potential compliance violations related to facilities operations, coordinating with Legal, HR, and client representatives to ensure thorough and timely resolution
  • Develop metrics and reporting frameworks to measure compliance program effectiveness and communicate performance to client stakeholders and JLL leadership
  • Champion a culture of integrity and safety by modeling ethical behavior and creating channels for team members and site personnel to raise concerns without fear of retaliation

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Facilities Management, Business Administration, or related field
  • Minimum 7 years of progressive compliance experience in facilities management, with at least 3 years in a managerial role overseeing compliance operations at complex sites
  • Deep knowledge of regulatory frameworks relevant to R&D facilities, including OSHA requirements, environmental regulations (EPA, state/local codes), and workplace safety standards
  • Proven track record of managing and developing high-performing facilities teams while maintaining rigorous compliance standards in operational environments
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess complex facilities operations, identify compliance gaps, and recommend practical solutions
  • Exceptional communication and influence skills, with demonstrated ability to engage site personnel, client representatives, and regulatory officials effectively
  • Experience conducting investigations and managing sensitive compliance matters within facilities operations with discretion, objectivity, and sound judgment
  • Professional certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), or Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP)

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Facilities Management, Risk Management, or related field
  • Experience managing compliance operations at Research and Development or laboratory facilities with specialized environmental and safety requirements
  • Background in integrated facilities management (IFM) or corporate real estate services supporting life sciences, technology, or government clients
  • Familiarity with LEED, sustainability standards, and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) compliance frameworks relevant to facilities operations
  • Experience with facilities management systems (CAFM/CMMS) and data analytics tools used to monitor compliance performance
