Cleveland Clinic’s School of Pharmacy Technology offers one of the few accredited, hospital-based Pharmacy Technician programs in the U.S. Through an 16-18-week accelerated apprenticeship, students receive hands-on training in inpatient and outpatient settings, learning skills such as medication preparation, distribution, inventory control, customer service, and recordkeeping. Graduates earn a diploma in Pharmacy Technology and are prepared to take the national certification exam. 

A caregiver in this position works 6:45am to 3:15pm. No weekend requirements. This role pays a flat rate of $17 per hour.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:   

  • Prepare medications (selection, labeling, repackaging, non-sterile compounding and sterile compounding).   
  • Deliver medications to appropriate storage locations.  
  • Maintain accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies.  
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.  
  • Document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities, and training in an accurate and timely manner.   
  • Attend and actively participate in team huddles and meetings.   
  • Use information systems, technology and automation to complete assigned tasks.  
  • Maintain good standing in the Cleveland Clinic School of Pharmacy Technology Program per the student handbook.  

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:   

  • High School Diploma or GED  
  • Successful completion of the Cleveland Clinic School of Pharmacy Technology program within 12 months of hire
  • Registration as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy upon hire   
  • Registration as a Certified Pharmacy Technician with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy and Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) Certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) within 12 months  
  • Ability to perform algebraic calculations necessary for the preparation of extemporaneous compounds  
  • Basic computer skills  

Physical Requirements:

  • Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing, walking, reaching, stretching and sitting for prolonged periods; manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer, dispensing, and compounding.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
