Role Description

The Global Head of Facilities Management & Critical Facilities (FM & CF) reports to the Global Head of Strategy, Facilities and Construction (F&C) and oversees FM & CF functions for Citi's global real estate portfolio of 26+ million sq. ft. with a multi-billion annual expenditure. 

The role will directly manage regional FM managers (APAC, EMEA, LATAM and NAM) and the Global Critical Facilities Head, providing overall leadership of their teams. This role will leverage capabilities across the two functions to meet F&C’s objectives and provide strong leadership to geographically dispersed teams, drive talent development, succession planning, performance management, and an inclusive, high-performance culture.

The role will drive effective risk management for these two functions: Maintain robust controls; ensure statutory compliance; manage third  and fourth party risk; and protect business operations through disciplined operational governance.

Key Responsibilities:

Facilities Management (FM)

This role directly oversees the regional FM teams that deliver against the following responsibilities:

  • Providing facilities management services for all Citi premises that emphasize employee well-being, enhance customer satisfaction, and are aligned with functional best practices, KPIs and agreed budgets. Facilities management activities include cleaning, preventative maintenance and repairs, building engineering and property management.
  • Acting as primary liaison for all facility related audits and ensuring adherence to corporate standards and regulatory mandates.
  • Improving the efficiency and performance of the functions through the collection, management and analysis of relevant performance data.
  • Supporting Citi’s commitment to net zero emissions by implementing energy efficiency and solar generation programs including evaluation of feasible interventions and tracking outcomes.

The Global Head of FM & CF will:

  • Own the Facilities Management vision and align it with the broader RES strategy. Engage stakeholders across RES (Strategy, Asset Management, Design & Construction, Transactions, Sustainability, Sourcing, etc.). Understand business needs and ensure FM initiatives support enterprise-wide strategies.
  • Develop long term FM delivery strategies:
  • Work with experts in F&C and RES to build capabilities to collect and leverage data from our buildings, equipment, service requests and incidents to drive efficiency and effectiveness of FM delivery and tracking. This includes using AI to enhance predictive maintenance and resource management. 
  • Work with RES leadership and F&C colleagues to select service providers for each part of our global portfolio, balancing our objectives and the local characteristics of our portfolio.
  • Oversee vendor governance, KPIs, and SLAs across multiple vendor partners.  Lead contract mobilization and transitions, as appropriate
  • Cultivate strategic relationships with global partners to deliver the FM vision and ensure supply chain resilience.
  • Oversee operating and capital budgets for FM and CFM.
  • Deliver transparent, accurate and timely cost forecasts and cost information to RES leadership to create and manage RES’s multi-year financial plans. Minimize financial surprises and manage financial risks. 
  • Build and manage smart capital investment plans for each region based on updated asset condition information and aligned with the FM vision and RES strategy.
  • Ensure cost effective operations and deliver strong commercial management of the vendor ecosystem.

Critical Facilities (CF)

The Global Critical Facilities Head reports to this role, and is accountable for the delivery, operation, and management of Citi's mission-critical environments (data centers, command centers and financial trading floors), with focus on planning and stakeholder management. The Critical Facilities team are experts in critical systems engineering and management, and ensure the continuous, secure, and efficient functioning of vital infrastructure.

The Global Head of FM & CF will work with the Critical Facilities Head to develop and implement a multi-year strategic plan for the Critical Facilities function. This includes developing capabilities and organizational structures that are relevant to the changing environment in which the function operates. The Global FM & CF Head will work with the CF Head to champion innovation and emerging technologies – including the following ongoing changes in the industry:

  • The role of AI adoption in driving the need for higher power densities in our data centers.
  • Internet of Things (sensors connected to the cloud) and AI are changing how buildings are operated. Information Security is a requirement to enable deployment of this capability.  
  • Where and how applications are hosted impacts the projected demand on our data centers.
  • The evolving mix between owned and colocation data centers and its impacts on how RES and Technology teams oversee the infrastructure in those facilities and plan for future capacity.

Leveraging new technologies to improve energy efficiency of data centers and reduce carbon emissions through operations and investments, including on-site renewables.

  • Clearly demonstrate to internal and external stakeholders that our risk management and controls are effective within the environments that we operate.  

Qualifications & Requirements

  • 20+ years of diverse professional experience in the real estate industry including global FM management or related discipline. Experience in institutional real estate asset management.
  • Prior experience of working in the Financial Management industry with a wide portfolio of integrated banking sectors.
  • Bachelor’s degree, master’s degree preferred.
  • International profile with evidence of successfully leading from the front and improving multifunctional, multicultural teams in a highly competitive and commercial environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to lead teams through direct and matrix reporting lines.
  • People management and development expertise in multiple operational/geographic contexts. Advanced cross-cultural and cross-functional collaboration skills. Able to enhance performance and foster innovation across internal functions and with key outsourced partners. Able to align resources across teams against current priorities and multiple objectives. 
  • Proven ability to take broad visions and concepts and develop structured plans, actions, and measurable metrics. Ability to bring clarity to challenging problems and to help others engage in and embrace a solution.
  • Able to leverage strong business acumen to effectively interact with senior leaders and a broad variety of stakeholders.  Strong executive presence; confident in presenting a balanced view to key stakeholders and senior management. 
  • Extremely results-oriented with exemplary written and oral communication skills. Excellent presentation skills and strategic agility.
  • Strong controls and compliance track record. Demonstrated professional ethics and integrity in carrying out responsibilities to clients, peers, and the franchise.
  • Adaptable, flexible, and able to respond to changes in priorities.
