Job Description
About the role:
The Technical Content Marketing Writer, Developer Advocate plays a critical, high-impact role in educating the developer community about Red Hat's technologies, primarily focusing on RHEL, Ansible, OpenShift, and AI products. This position blends deep technical knowledge with exceptional communication skills to create compelling and accessible learning content.
You will act as a bridge between complex engineering concepts and the end-user, prioritizing the creation and maintenance of learning paths that enable developers to quickly and effectively adopt Red Hat solutions. The ideal candidate is comfortable participating in feedback loops between users and product teams. The ideal candidate has a developer advocate background, a passion for writing, and thrives in a results-oriented environment.
What you will do:
Content creation & maintenance: Create and regularly update technical learning paths for Red Hat products, ensuring technical accuracy and clarity. This includes developing introductory material that is accessible to new users.
Technical expertise: Stay current with the constant influx of new technologies, programming languages (JavaScript, YAML, Python, etc), and software development principles to ensure content is relevant and forward-looking.
Cross-functional collaboration: Work closely with key stakeholders across the organization.
Community engagement: Monitor and engage with solutions architects and various product internal Slack channels to gather information, offer assistance, and identify emerging content needs.
Strategic prioritization: Apply foresight and knowledge of current industry trends, user data, and Red Hat's global marketing goals and market position to help the team strategically select and prioritize which learning paths to develop.
Advocacy & outreach: Occasionally assist with high-impact demonstrations of products and technologies like virtualization, Linux and Windows containers, or automation for a variety of industry verticals.
What you will bring:
Software development background: Essential understanding of modern software development principles; proficiency in multiple programming languages is highly desirable, with the ability to quickly adapt and learn new technologies.
OpenShift/Containerization knowledge: Practical experience or strong foundational knowledge of Kubernetes and/or OpenShift container technology is crucial.
Platform flexibility: Proven ability to work effectively across diverse (Mac, Linux, and/or Windows) development environments, with a strong commitment to serving the large developer audience.
Soft skills and experience
Exceptional communication & writing: Superior written and verbal communication skills; a background in journalism or other fast-paced writing is a strong plus. Must excel at storytelling, balancing professional instruction with humanity and humor.
"People skills" & collaboration: The ability to effectively collaborate with engineers, developer advocates, and other teams. Must be comfortable admitting knowledge gaps and proactively seeking help and solutions.
Clarity and detail: Commitment to clearly documenting all prerequisites and technical setup requirements (e.g., Git, specific software versions) to ensure user success.
Curiosity and adaptability: A high degree of curiosity and the willingness to learn where to find solutions to technical challenges.
Independent work ethic: Ability to manage time effectively, focus, and work autonomously, while maintaining accountability to your team for results.
Ideal candidate profile
Proven experience as a Developer Advocate or in a similar technical writing/content creation role.
Someone who enjoys content creation and writing but seeks a role with reduced travel compared to traditional developer advocacy.
A candidate who thrives in a scrum-focused collaborative team environment, that values autonomy, and holds themself and team members/stakeholders accountable for deliverables.
