Job Description

Thanks for your interest in Success Academy! Running a large, fast-growing, and high-performing network of public charter schools takes a village - families, children, teachers, staff and faculty, advocates, and supporters alike. We are growing fast in New York and expanding to Florida, and we would love to welcome you to our community! We work tirelessly every day to ensure children have access to a fun, rigorous, whole-child education regardless of zip code or economic status. When you join SA, you play a part in giving every student who walks through our doors a fair shot at reaching his or her potential.

About the Role

The Team Lead, Private Facilities Management serves as Success Academy’s owner-side facilities leader for privately leased and operated sites that are not co-located. This role is accountable for ensuring facilities operate as safe, reliable, and instruction ready environments aligned to network standards.

This position drives day-to-day facilities operations, preventative maintenance, vendor performance, and issue resolution across private sites. The Team Lead partners closely with the Renovations team during buildouts, turnovers, and expansions, owning outcomes and ensuring a smooth transition from construction to ongoing operations.

The role requires a hands-on facilities professional who can roll up their sleeves when needed while also operating effectively at a strategic level. The Team Lead translates facilities challenges into clear direction, produces executive-ready updates and reporting, and serves as a trusted point of contact for school leaders, internal teams, vendors, and senior leadership.

The ideal candidate brings strong facilities experience, sound judgment, and a high bar for execution. They are comfortable engaging across all levels of the organization from on-site troubleshooting to leadership communication and take full ownership of delivering consistent, high quality facilities operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own performance and serve as Success Academy’s owner-side representative for all privately operated and owned facilities.

  • Drive daily facilities operations, including maintenance, janitorial, security, and life-safety systems, ensuring consistent execution.

  • Establish, enforce, and scale preventative maintenance programs and operating standards.

  • Ensure full regulatory compliance across private buildings (DOB, FDNY, façade, COs, elevators, boilers, DEP, health and safety).

  • Manage budgets, service contracts, renewals, and vendor performance with clear accountability.

  • Partner with Renovations to deliver disciplined transitions from construction to operations.

  • Lead escalations for private facilities issues, driving timely resolution with clear risk assessment.

  • Travel as required to support facilities operations, projects, and organizational priorities.

  • Execute other duties as required to uphold operational excellence.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred (Facilities, Engineering, Construction, Business, or related); equivalent experience accepted.

  • 8–10+ years of progressive facilities management experience, including private building operations.

  • Working knowledge of building systems (HVAC, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety) to evaluate recommendations and drive sound decisions.

  • Proven ability to hold partners accountable, manage risk, and deliver timely resolution.

  • Proficiency in Google Workspace, Monday.com, Trello, and Coupa.

  • High standards for organization, documentation, urgency, and follow-through.

  • Clear, direct communication skills and the ability to lead across stakeholders.

  • Commitment to continuous improvement and professional development in facilities and operations.
