ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer (Backend/Infrastructure) to join the VTEX Network team. This team manages the core connective tissue of our cloud platform, being responsible for CDN, Cloud Connectivity, Ingress, DNS, and Service Mesh.
In this role, you will tackle one of our most critical engineering challenges: the evolution of our Service Mesh. Currently, VTEX relies on a highly performant, custom-built router (developed in .NET) that acts as our service mesh, processing millions of requests per second and serving as the backbone for all VTEX applications. Your mission is to help evolve this mission-critical infrastructure, leading the transition toward a market-standard stack (like Istio), with zero downtime and absolute reliability.
This is a role at the deep intersection of software engineering and scalable infrastructure, requiring extreme care for performance, resilience, and system architecture.
ABOUT THE TEAM
The Cloud Network team at VTEX is responsible for ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of our platform, which supports thousands of stores worldwide.
As part of a recent transformation, the team is focusing on building a new generation of infrastructure systems, including the evolution of Service Mesh, networking, and compute layers.
Our mission is to create a platform where infrastructure complexity is abstracted, enabling engineers to move faster while maintaining high standards of reliability and performance.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Drive Architectural Evolution: Lead the technical strategy and execution to migrate our custom routing layer to a modern, market-standard Service Mesh (e.g., Istio).
- Build for Extreme Scale: Design, develop, and maintain network infrastructure components that sustain millions of requests per second with incredibly low latency.
- Operate Mission-Critical Systems: Ensure the continuous availability and resilience of VTEX's core network services (Ingress, DNS, Service Mesh, CDN) that impact thousands of stores globally.
- Master Service Design: Apply deep service design principles to create scalable, robust, and easily maintainable backend services and infrastructure tooling.
WHO YOU ARE
- Experienced Backend/Platform Engineer: You have a strong background in Software Engineering (Backend) with deep, hands-on experience managing and evolving Kubernetes infrastructure.
- High-Scale Veteran: You have 3+ years of experience operating, troubleshooting, and designing systems for mission-critical environments with massive throughput (millions of requests per second).
- System Design Expert: You possess profound knowledge of service design, distributed systems, networking concepts (TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS, Proxies), and microservices communication.
