Job Description

At Roche you can show up as yourself, embraced for the unique qualities you bring. Our culture encourages personal expression, open dialogue, and genuine connections,  where you are valued, accepted and respected for who you are, allowing you to thrive both personally and professionally. This is how we aim to prevent, stop and cure diseases and ensure everyone has access to healthcare today and for generations to come. Join Roche, where every voice matters.

The Position

As part of Pharma Technical Operations (PT), Pharma Technical Technology (PTT) plays a key role in leading a seamless industrialization and thorough technical product management through integrating SHE, proactive maintenance, facility fitness, performance optimization and scalable manufacturing processes and technologies in support of the manufacturing network. Product and process robustness, efficiency and reliability are key performance indicators, PTT owns and drives towards improvement.

Within PTT, Roche’s global Manufacturing Science and Technology (gMSAT) department is the process and product owner for our commercial products, including our internal and external drug substance and drug product network, implementation of new technologies, network standardization, and mitigation of technical risks.

The Opportunity

Bridge the Gap Between "Pain" and "Gain”: Are you obsessed with seeing innovative technology actually work on the shop floor? Do you thrive in the space between a "Moonshot" idea and a standardized global reality?

As a Technology Deployment Steward within the gMSAT DS Technology Deployment group, you are the critical link in our structured pipeline. You don’t just "suggest" technology; you own the Exploitation and Scale-Out of solutions across Roche’s global manufacturing network. Your mission is to eliminate "Pilot Purgatory" by ensuring that every technological "Gain Creator" we identify is systematically deployed, validated, and sustained to deliver real-world value to our patients.

Reporting to the gMSAT DS Technology Deployment Group Lead, you are a first-line connector between global PTT MSAT and our internal and external manufacturing sites. You will lead cross-functional teams to move technologies from Proof of Concept (PoC) to global standardization.

  • Strategic Value Quantification: You will be responsible for formulating robust business cases that clearly articulate the quantitative and qualitative value of proposed technologies. This includes defining ROI, cost-avoidance, and productivity gains to secure stakeholder buy-in and drive informed investment decisions across the PTT portfolio.
  • Execution-Obsessed Deployment: Lead the "Real World" testing (Piloting) of technologies within operational production environments. You are responsible for assessing compatibility with legacy systems and human workflows.
  • Master the Pipeline: Drive projects through the dual-track of emerging tech and proven standards. You ensure that we aren't "applying technology for technology’s sake," but solving genuine manufacturing pain points.
  • Scale-Out & Standardization: Once a pilot is successful, you own the systematic global rollout. This includes technical implementation, creating unified digital training modules, and ensuring the solution is recorded in the Repository of Established Technology Standards.
  • Value Realization: You don’t stop at "Go-Live." You lead the feedback loops and formal audits (6-12 months post-deployment) to verify that the projected business benefits have hit the bottom line.
  • Matrix Leadership: Manage project teams and coordinate with others like Engineering, IT, and Production to ensure seamless integration. You will represent the network's technological needs in key governance forums.

Who You Are

You are a technical leader who combines deep process engineering knowledge with a pragmatic, "get-it-done" mindset. You understand that a technology is only successful if the site teams can—and want to—use it.

  • Education: B.S./M.S. in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Life Sciences, or a related discipline. A PhD can be of advantage.
  • Experience: 10+ years in the pharma/biotech industry, specifically in process development, technical engineering, or manufacturing operations (DS Bio preferred).
  • Technical Edge: Demonstrated expertise in technology transfer, process validation, and pharmaceutical quality systems. You are comfortable navigating regulatory requirements for platform-specific equipment.
  • Business Acumen: Beyond technical prowess, you possess the ability to translate complex engineering data into compelling business narratives. You are comfortable working with financial metrics to demonstrate how technological "Gain Creators" directly impact the bottom line and network competitiveness.
  • Mindset: You are a "thought leader and catalyst for digital." You see data not just as an output, but as a tool for operational insight.
  • Communicator: You can articulate complex technical deliverables to senior leadership and influence site-level stakeholders to adopt new standards.
  • Language Skills: Proficiency in English is required; German is a plus
  • Travel: Willingness to travel <10% to support site-specific pilots and deployments.

Why Join PTT?

In gMSAT, we are taking bold steps to modernize technical operations. We offer a global, matrixed environment where you have the autonomy to drive change and the support of a world-class technical network. We don’t just maintain the status quo—we shape the future of manufacturing.
