Description of Work
Are you a passionate and driven attorney ready to take on some of the most challenging and impactful cases in the criminal justice system? The Office of the District Attorney in Prosecutorial District 24 is seeking a dedicated prosecutor to focus on violent crime cases, including homicides, aggravated assaults, robberies, and gun-related offenses.This is a unique opportunity to make a profound difference in our community by holding violent offenders accountable, advocating for victims, and enhancing public safety.
Must have Homicide Trial experience.

What You'll Do:
Prosecute Violent Crime Cases:
Handle cases involving homicides, armed robberies, assaults, and other serious offenses in district and superior courts.
Serve as lead or co-counsel in high-profile and complex cases, ensuring thorough preparation and strategic advocacy.
Collaborate with Law Enforcement:
Work closely with detectives, crime scene investigators, and forensic specialists to gather evidence, review investigative reports, and strengthen case strategies.
Provide legal guidance to law enforcement during investigations, including advice on search warrants and charging decisions.
Engage with Victims and Families:
Partner with victim advocates to provide support and clear communication to victims and their families throughout the judicial process.
Address concerns, answer questions, and prepare victims and witnesses for court appearances with sensitivity and professionalism.
Lead Courtroom Advocacy:
Draft and argue motions, conduct witness examinations, and present compelling opening and closing arguments in trial.
Respond to defense motions and objections with confidence and legal precision.
Advance Community Safety:
Participate in initiatives and programs focused on reducing violent crime and preventing recidivism, including collaborative efforts with law enforcement and community organizations.

Knowledge of: federal, state, common, and constitutional law; judicial procedures and rules of evidence; case, statutory, and common law; NC General Statutes to prosecute criminal cases; judicial and quasi-judicial procedures; legal research methods, techniques, sources, databases, and other research tools; the principles and protocols for the evidentiary gathering of information, documents, financial records, and other data that may be used in trial court processes, protocols, and strategies; the operations of the NC court system; and ethical and professional standards of conduct.
Skill in: interpreting and applying complex criminal laws to information, evidence, and other data; listening techniques used in interviewing witnesses; using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of case facts; researching and identifying precedence in case law; utilizing and evaluating electronic legal research and online systems; negotiating plea agreements; organizing work; setting priorities; meeting critical deadlines; and following up on assignments with a minimum of direction.
Ability to: analyze facts, laws, rules, regulations, interpretations, and related written documents and apply applicable law to those facts; conduct legal research; plan, develop, and execute an effective litigation strategy to achieve desired results; prepare, organize, and conduct witness examinations; deliver opening statements, closing arguments, and evidentiary objections; express complex legal concepts and related facts in a clear and concise manner; argue clearly, logically, and persuasively; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with attorneys, law enforcement agencies, and other participants in the criminal justice process; recognize and solve problems; produce legal interpretations in a quick and responsive manner for court officials; write reports, motions, briefs, and other legal documents; deal tactfully with sensitive situations; communicate both orally and in writing; and work independently.

Minimum Education and Experience

Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited law school and an active license to practice law in North Carolina.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated interest or experience in violent crime prosecution or related areas of criminal law.
- Strong litigation and trial advocacy skills, or a willingness to develop them quickly.
- A commitment to public service and ensuring justice for victims of violent crime.
