SUMMARY: Lead the re-platforming and build-out of an internal KVM-based virtualization environment on new UCS hardware in the Ashburn data center. Integrate OpenStack and open-source automation tools to support the migration of workloads from legacy datacenter, ensuring robust, scalable, and automated infrastructure.

HIERARCHY: Will report to the Service Delivery Manager

PRIMARY DUTIES:

Tear down and rebuild existing ESX-based UCS blade environment, transitioning to KVM virtualization.
Design and implement an OpenStack platform for internal use, considering open-source alternatives to OpenShift due to current challenges.
Integrate SAN and NetApp storage solutions into the new platform, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
Deploy and configure open-source automation tools (e.g., Ansible) for infrastructure management and orchestration.
Collaborate with internal staff (including offshore resources) and provide technical leadership and mentorship as needed.
Work closely with network architects and storage teams to ensure seamless integration and operation.
Document architecture, configuration, and operational procedures for the new environment.
Support ongoing platform enhancements and troubleshooting.

COMPENTENCY:

Required

Extensive experience with Linux, KVM virtualization, and OpenStack deployment.
Strong background in UCS hardware, SAN, and NetApp storage integration.
Proficiency with open-source automation tools (e.g., Ansible).
Ability to work independently and as part of a distributed team.
Excellent documentation and communication skills.

Preferred

Experience with OpenShift and other open-source cloud platforms.
Prior involvement in large-scale data center migrations and re-platforming projects.
Familiarity with hybrid cloud environments.
