The Role
The Senior Director, Tax Operations is responsible for leading the company’s US and global tax compliance, reporting, and operational execution. This role owns the complete tax lifecycle, from filings and audits to tax accounting and process design, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and scalability as the business grows. This role provides strategic and operational leadership over the US tax function, with responsibility for setting processes, governance, and execution standards that are implemented by the broader tax team. This role partners closely with Finance, Legal, Payroll, HR, and external advisors and serves as the operational backbone of the global tax function.
Responsibilities
Tax Compliance & Reporting: Lead US federal, state, and local income tax compliance, including oversight of complex partnership and pass-through structures, as well as corporate entities where applicable.
Oversight over indirect tax compliance in partnership with internal stakeholders and advisors.
Own the US tax calendar and ensure timely, accurate filings in all jurisdictions.
Tax Accounting & Financial Reporting Interface: Partner with Finance on quarterly and annual close processes, including tax-related accruals, estimates, and disclosures relevant to partnership and pass-through structures.
Serve as the primary tax contact for financial statement audits. Ensure audit readiness through strong documentation, data integrity, and coordination with Finance and external advisors.
Operational Leadership & Controls: Design, implement, and continuously improve documented tax processes and workflows to support accurate, timely, and scalable tax execution.
Drive efficiencies through standardization, automation, and improved data flows across the tax function.
Audit & Risk Management: Manage US tax audits, notices, and inquiries, coordinating responses with internal stakeholders and external advisors.
Assess and manage tax risks, escalating issues as appropriate with clear recommendations.
Cross-Functional Partnership: Act as a trusted advisor to Finance, Legal, Payroll, and HR on operational tax matters.
Support M&A integration, entity rationalization, and post-transaction compliance execution.
Leadership: Provide leadership and mentorship within the tax function.
Coordinate and oversee work performed by external accounting firms and advisors.
Qualifications
15+ years of tax experience, including significant in-house experience in a multinational environment.
Deep expertise in US income tax compliance.
Strong understanding of global tax operations and coordination across jurisdictions.
Proven ability to build and run scalable tax processes.
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
CPA, JD, and/or MST required.
Location
This is a hybrid role based out of our Los Angeles office.
Compensation
The annual base salary for this position is in the range of $218,000 – $270,000 in Los Angeles, CA. This position is also eligible for benefits and a discretionary bonus. Ultimately, the salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in the role, business sector, and geographic location, among other criteria.
