Job Description
About Away
We believe travel makes us better. Launched in 2016 with one perfectly designed carry-on, we now offer a range of luggage and travel essentials for every journey. Together we create, innovate, and embark on this journey as a community of travelers, helping to make travel more seamless for everyone.
Join The Crew
We are hiring a CMF Designer to join our Design team. This role reports to the CMF Director and takes Away further by driving CMF innovation, assisting with color approvals, and managing a comprehensive CMF library and reference system. In this role, you’ll also be responsible for sourcing appropriate materials and finishes across our range of luggage, accessories, and bags.
What you’ll do as the Color, Material, Finish Designer
You’ll assist the Senior CMF team in the initial review of 1st-round color approvals, developing your eye for color matching across materials such as Polycarbonate (PC), Nylon, leather, and hardware
You’ll review material lab dips and organize trims and hardware, ensuring all materials are meticulously tracked and accounted for in our database systems at every stage of the design process
You’ll support the design team by gathering and synthesizing research on current trends and emerging CMF innovations in the market to inform future palettes
You’ll travel to international production partners to assist senior team members in the on-site review and documentation of color, materials, and finishes to ensure consistency across Away products
You’ll maintain and update digital CMF files and "color up" CADs under the direction of the CMF Director to visualize seasonal concepts
You’ll communicate regularly with product development teams in Asia to track the status of color and material samples and ensure clarity of design intent and documentation
Who you are
You have a minimum of 1 year of design and/or color and material matching experience across either luggage, bags, or hard goods
You're familiar with the overall product life cycle and manufacturing process for the product
You’re proficient in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
You have previous experience and demonstrate the willingness to work with factories to ensure clear communication of design intent by visiting factories and suppliers as needed
You are flexible and have strong time management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple projects and take responsibility for deadlines
You’re bilingual
You’re an excellent communicator, detail-oriented, and organized
You’re creative and innovative; you love to build great new things that are fresh and unique while staying on brand
You’re agile, and motivated by a fast-paced and ever changing environment
You’re passionate about transforming travel for all (but that’s a given!)
Excited to join the team, but not sure you meet all of the qualifications? Please apply, we’d still love to hear from you.
Who We Are
We’re travelers. Travel is about the journey - the transformative experiences and the growth each trip offers. All employees are encouraged to take time to get away through our variety of time away from work offerings.
We’re driven. The work we do matters and collectively drives impact. No matter the job title, everyone at Away is a meaningful contributor in unlocking our ever growing potential.
We’re supportive. We value the entirety of your life's journey, not just the milestones. You'll find an environment that celebrates balance, understanding that your personal passions and commitments outside of work, are threads of the same fabric that makes you unique.
