About the role

We’re hiring a Payroll & Benefits Coordinator to help support and scale one of the most critical functions at Circle. Today, payroll and benefits are owned by a single team member — and as we continue to grow, we need additional support and redundancy to ensure accuracy, continuity, and a great employee experience.

This role will work closely with our Senior Payroll & Benefits Specialist to execute day-to-day payroll and benefits operations while building a strong understanding of the full function. You’ll play a key role in keeping things running smoothly.

 

What you'll be doing

  • Support end-to-end payroll processing across multiple states and countries using Remote
  • Review and validate timekeeping data, including hours worked and PTO, ensuring accuracy before payroll runs
  • Process payroll changes including new hires, compensation updates, terminations, bonuses, and adjustments
  • Administer employee benefits programs (health, dental, vision, 401(k), etc.), including enrollments and life event changes
  • Manage contractor lifecycle operations, including agreements (SOWs), onboarding, and invoice schedules
  • Coordinate offboarding processes, including system updates, benefits terminations, and cross-functional alignment
  • Serve as a point of contact for employee questions related to payroll and benefits, and support internal documentation and process improvements

What you'll need to be successful

  • Strong alignment with our values, find our values on our career page if you haven’t read up on them yet
  • 4+ years of experience in payroll, benefits, or a related function, ideally in a high-growth or distributed company
  • Strong understanding of payroll fundamentals, including taxes, deductions, and compliance basics
  • Experience working with payroll systems and HRIS tools (Remote.com experience is a plus), including exposure to international payroll
  • Advanced spreadsheet skills (e.g., lookups) and a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage recurring deadlines and handle sensitive information with discretion
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English (CEFR C2 or equivalent), as most collaboration at Circle happens asynchronously

Bonus points

  • Experience in a remote-first or distributed company
  • Familiarity with multi-state payroll requirements in the U.S.
  • Exposure to benefits compliance (ACA, COBRA, etc.)

$90,000 - $110,000 USD per year

The cash compensation range shown is a starting point. In addition to equity, benefits and perks, your cash compensation is subject to an annual review and increase on a once per year basis.
