About the Role

The Director / Head of PR & External Communications will lead the company’s public relations and external communications function, shaping how the business is understood by media, investors, partners, and external stakeholders.

This role owns the company’s external corporate narrative and messaging and serves as a key communications partner to senior leadership. The position will oversee media strategy, corporate storytelling, and reputation management while ensuring clarity and consistency across all external communications.

This leader will manage agency partners and oversee the internal PR team, including a PR / External Communications Lead who reports into this role.

You will partner closely with executive leadership, Legal, Investor Relations, HR, and People teams to ensure the company communicates its strategy, performance, and vision with confidence and impact.

Key Responsibilities

External Communications Leadership

  • Lead the company’s PR and external communications function
  • Own external corporate communications strategy and messaging
  • Shape the company’s narrative across media, press, and public channels
  • Identify proactive media opportunities that elevate the brand and leadership

Media Relations & PR

  • Build and manage relationships with corporate, business, and trade media
  • Develop and execute media strategies around key announcements, partnerships, launches, and milestones
  • Manage and oversee PR agency partners
  • Lead media outreach, press opportunities, and coverage strategy

Executive Communications

  • Partner closely with Tara and senior leadership on messaging and communications strategy
  • Support talking points, media preparation, thought leadership, and interviews
  • Ensure leadership communications align with company narrative and strategic priorities

Corporate Messaging

  • Develop and maintain consistent external messaging across communications, media, and announcements
  • Translate company strategy and business developments into clear external narratives
  • Ensure alignment across communications efforts

Issues Management & Reputation

  • Lead issues management, crisis communications, and reputation protection
  • Provide strategic communications counsel during high-visibility moments

Team Leadership

  • Lead and manage the internal PR team
  • Oversee and mentor the PR / External Communications Lead role
  • Coordinate communications efforts across internal stakeholders and partners

Qualifications

  • 10–15+ years of experience in public relations, corporate communications, or media relations
  • Experience leading external communications in a high-growth, consumer, healthcare, or public company environment
  • Deep expertise in media relations and corporate messaging
