Role Definition
The MineStar Underground systems are used in an integrated mine environment to enable autonomous machine operations, production recording, management, and monitoring in underground mining applications, using onboard and offboard software and systems.
As a System Integration and Validation Engineer, you will be instrumental in ensuring the delivery of these high‑quality products that meet Caterpillar customer needs.
Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Be part of the Underground Technology Global Validation Team, engaging with stakeholders on schedule, process, and quality goals.
Contribute to system requirements definition for functionality and features to ensure clear, testable success criteria.
Develop test plans for simulated, Hardware‑in‑the‑Loop (HIL), and proving ground environments.
Continuously maintain test plans and test case libraries, while expanding the scope and scale of testing.
Execute test cases, including operation of simulated underground mining machines, autonomy systems, and technology under test at Caterpillar and customer sites.
Identify software and system issues, including analysis of related subsystems to assign corrective action tasks.
Perform issue documentation, tracking, and management.
Travel to Caterpillar labs, proving grounds, and customer sites to support validation activities.
Troubleshoot software and system communication issues.
Use development tools to collect data required for offline analysis.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in an accredited Engineering or Computer Science curriculum
3+ years of relevant work experience
Strong analytical and communication skills
Validation experience in on-machine, HIL or simulated environments
Desired Experience (not essential):
Experience developing or validating mining technology products
Networking and radio communication experience
Minesite experience
Experience in HIL environment
Additional Information:
Location: Perth
Working environment: 5 days in office
Travel: To Caterpillar Proving Grounds and Customer sites as required (up to 50%)
