Role Summary

The TS&D Specialist will serve as a key technical liaison among customers, commercial teams, manufacturing, and global TS&D. This role requires deep application knowledge, hands-on technical expertise, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional and cross-regional teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage directly with customers to understand application requirements, identify performance gaps, and evaluate system-level challenges in transportation, electronics, or industrial applications.
  • Lead or support application development activities utilizing Vespel® materials and provide technical recommendations on material selection, design optimization, processing, and balancing performance trade-offs.
  • Support customer trials, validation testing, and technical reviews to ensure successful adoption of Vespel® solutions.
  • Diagnose and resolve customer technical issues related to material performance, durability, wear, thermal stability, chemical resistance, and noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) concerns.
  • Assist in developing product value propositions and understanding the competitive landscape.
  • Prepare, update, and maintain technical guides and marketing literature.
  • Deliver technical presentations at company meetings, technical conferences, and at customer or partner facilities.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for improvement and business growth. Support regional commercial and marketing teams in achieving business growth objectives.
  • Build laboratory capabilities by introducing new equipment, processes, and test methods as required.
  • Maintain high safety standards at the program level and actively advocate for safety in all departmental operations.
  • Travel extensively throughout the China region, with approximately 30% travel required.

Qualifications

Education

A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline is required.

Experience

  • Three to five years of relevant technical experience in application engineering, technical service and development, product development, or customer-facing technical roles.
  • Industry experience in transportation, electronics, or industrial markets is required, with preferred experience in at least one sector. Familiarity with parts design, CAD, simulation or application of high-performance polymers is a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience engaging directly with customers for application development or technical problem-solving.

Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of polymer materials and their use in challenging environments, including thermal, mechanical, wear, chemical, or electrical applications.
  • Experience with application-level testing and the ability to interpret data.
  • Capability to translate system requirements into recommendations for material selection and design.

Soft Skills & Working Style

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and Chinese.
  • Proven ability to work effectively within cross-functional and cross-regional teams.
  • A customer-focused mindset, strong problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Self-motivated and organized, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with high-performance polymers such as polyimides, PEEK, PPS, or similar materials.
  • Experience working in a multinational or global matrix organization.
