Title and Summary
Manager, Product Development (Technical Product Owner)OverviewMastercard’s Digital Payments team delivers secure, frictionless, and scalable digital commerce experiences to consumers, merchants, fintechs, and issuers worldwide. As part of the Global Product Strategy & Development organization, you will help shape and evolve the technical platforms that power Mastercard’s digital-first payment experiences — including Secure Remote Commerce (SRC), EMV-based digital credentials, tokenization services, and next-generation digital commerce APIs.
This role is ideal for technical product leaders who can operate across architecture, engineering, and product strategy, driving reusable, scalable platform capabilities used across Mastercard’s digital payments ecosystem.
Role
As a Manager, Product Development, you will serve as the Product Owner for internal microservices, APIs, and platform components that underpin Mastercard’s digital payments stack. You will define the technical vision, shape the roadmap, translate requirements, and partner directly with engineering to deliver secure, high-performing platform capabilities used globally.
This role requires strong technical depth, platform thinking, and experience delivering services in secure, high-scale payment environments.
Key Responsibilities
Own the vision and roadmap for internal platform services and APIs underpinning Mastercard’s digital payments stack (e.g., SRC, tokenization, digital credentials, authentication).
Drive platform‑first, reusable‑by‑design capabilities aligned with Digital Payments strategy, enterprise architecture, and regulatory requirements.
Translate business, scheme, and regulatory needs into clear technical requirements, epics, and user stories with embedded non‑functional requirements (latency, resiliency, availability, security, observability).
Act as Product Owner for one or more scrum teams, leading backlog prioritization, sprint planning, grooming, reviews, and delivery execution.
Partner closely with engineering and architecture to decompose complex problems, manage dependencies, and ensure high‑quality, production‑ready outcomes.
Apply Domain‑Driven Design (DDD) principles to define clean service boundaries, API contracts, and scalable platform architectures.
Ensure services and APIs comply with Mastercard standards for security, tokenization, encryption, and auditability.
Define and track KPIs for platform performance, reliability, security posture, and service adoption; use telemetry to drive continuous optimization.
Represent the platform across Product, Engineering, Security, Architecture,
Operations, and regional teams, clearly communicating progress, risks, and trade‑offs.
About You
7–10+ years of experience in technical product owner roles with background in software architecture/design/development.
Strong hands‑on understanding of APIs, microservices, distributed systems, and cloud‑native architectures.
Experience or familiarity with digital payments, including wallets, EMV, SRC, tokenization, or authentication.
Strong exposure to Agile PDLC, including hands‑on backlog grooming, refinement, sprint planning, and release readiness as a Product Owner.
Proven ability to translate business, regulatory, and technical needs into clear, engineering‑ready user stories with embedded non‑functional requirements.
Comfortable working directly with engineers on architecture diagrams, system flows, API contracts, and service dependencies.
Solid understanding of security‑by‑design, compliance (e.g., PCI), and operating in regulated environments.
Actively leverages AI tools across the product development lifecycle to improve requirements quality, documentation, analysis, and delivery efficiency.
Platform‑first mindset with a focus on scalability, reuse, reliability, and long‑term platform health.
Strong ownership mentality with the ability to operate independently, communicate clearly, and deliver predictable outcomes.
