Job Description

About Gartner IT

Join a world-class team of skilled engineers who build creative digital solutions to support our colleagues and clients. We make a broad organizational impact by delivering cutting-edge technology solutions that power Gartner. Gartner IT values its culture of nonstop innovation, an outcome-driven approach to success, and the notion that great ideas can come from anyone on the team.

About the Role

Gartner is seeking a high-energy Software Engineering Manager to lead our Client Experience Team. This role is designed for a technical leader who excels at the intersection of sophisticated UI development and engineering management. You will lead a pod of engineers dedicated to building high-performance, client-facing interfaces that serve as the primary gateway to our AI and Search insights.

You are a leader who still enjoys the "how" of technical execution but has transitioned into the "who" and "when" of delivery. You will ensure that our web platforms are not only visually polished but also architecturally sound, accessible, and optimized for a global client base.

What You’ll Do

  • Team Leadership & Growth: Lead a team of 5–8 developers. You will be responsible for the day-to-day management, professional development, and performance of the team, ensuring a high bar for code quality and UI consistency.
  • UI-Centric Delivery: Oversee the execution of UI-heavy projects, ensuring seamless integration between complex backend data (AI/Search) and intuitive frontend experiences.
  • Stakeholder Partnership: Work closely with Product and UX Design teams to define feasibility, break down complex requirements into executable sprints, and manage delivery timelines.
  • Technical Governance: Conduct code reviews and architectural deep-dives. You will ensure the team adheres to modern CSS/JS best practices, design systems, and web performance standards.
  • Operational Excellence: Improve the team's "Shift Left" capabilities by implementing automated UI testing, visual regression suites, and robust CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strategic Alignment: Translate the business roadmap into technical tasks, ensuring the team is focused on high-impact features that improve the overall client experience.

What You’ll Need

Must Have:

  • Experience: 7–8+ years of total experience in Software Engineering, with at least 1–1.5 years of experience in a formal Engineering Management or Team Lead role with direct people-management responsibilities.
  • Frontend Expertise: Strong background in modern web technologies (React, Angular, or Vue) with a focus on building complex, state-heavy client applications.
  • Managerial Foundations: Proven ability to handle performance reviews, mentorship, and technical conflict resolution within an engineering team.
  • UI/UX Sensibility: A deep understanding of web performance (Core Web Vitals), accessibility (WCAG), and the ability to partner effectively with designers.
  • Architecture: Experience designing and consuming scalable REST or GraphQL APIs that power data-rich user interfaces.
  • Process Mindset: Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and a track record of improving team velocity and deployment frequency.

Nice to Have / Opportunity to Learn:

  • Experience building interfaces for Search-driven applications or AI-powered dashboards.
  • Knowledge of Micro-Frontend architectures or managing shared component libraries.
  • Exposure to Cloud environments (AWS/Azure) and server-side rendering (SSR) techniques.

Don’t meet every single requirement? We encourage you to apply anyway. You might just be the right candidate for this, or other roles.
