Job Description:

This position requires candidates to upload a resume in English; you are welcome to upload multiple versions of your resume if you prefer but an English version of your resume will be required to be considered for this position.

The IOTS Pathfinding team is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Engineer Intern to join our team in Guadalajara. In this role, you will support readiness and scalability for next-generation high-speed I/O technologies, including PCI Express, UXI, CXL, and USB. You will participate in technology pathfinding projects essential to future server platforms and Intel's data center leadership.

You will collaborate with diverse engineering groups across Intel's I/O community and partner with external industry organizations. Additionally, you will develop simulation workflows for redriver/retimer components and links, delivering scripts, parameter sweeps, lab measurements, comparative analyses to electrical links, and architecture recommendations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze existing redriver/retimer and direct-drive electrical I/O solutions to understand capabilities, gaps, and applicability to I/O.
  • Support electrical feasibility studies using simulation (e.g., channel modeling, eye/BER-related assessments) and correlation with available lab/bench data.
  • Identify, define, and document critical electrical parameters for direct-drive redrivers (e.g. insertion loss budgets, equalization behavior, jitter/noise tolerance, crosstalk sensitivity, power/thermal considerations).
  • Draft and iterate a specification/requirements template (sections, parameter tables, assumptions, compliance guidance) to enable consistent evaluation across candidate solutions.
  • Propose and compare possible solution approaches for electrical direct-drive extension scenarios, including risks, tradeoffs, and validation considerations.
  • Create clear technical documentation and present findings in reviews (slides/notes) to support alignment and decision-making across stakeholders.

Behavioral Traits:

  • Eagerness to learn and apply new technical concepts.
  • Sense of ownership and accountability for assigned tasks.
  • Work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Proactive, organized, and able to manage multiple tasks.
  • Open to feedback and continuous improvement.

What You Will Learn

  • Experience with electrical simulation and lab analysis.
  • Skills in workflow automation and test data correlation.
  • Exposure to advanced I/O technologies and team collaboration.
  • Insight into career paths in optical and I/O engineering.
  • Supportive environment for building strong technical foundations.

Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications are required to be initially considered for this position.  Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.

Requirements listed would be obtained through a combination of industry relevant job experience, internship experiences and or schoolwork/classes/research.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's in Electronics or Electrical Engineering, Computer Sciences, Mechatronics, or a related technical field.
  • 3+ months of experience in Electrical Engineering (both Digital and Analog Electronics)
  • Advanced English level.
  • Must have unrestricted, permanent right to work in Mexico (this role is not eligible for visa or immigration sponsorship).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge on Computer Architecture.
  • Experience with laboratory test equipment including oscilloscopes, power supplies, signal analyzers, test probes, multimeters, and other standard instrumentation.
  • Intermediate programming skills in Python or C++
  • Read and interpret electronic component datasheets.
  • At least 1 year remaining before graduation.
