What You’ll Do
Samsung Semiconductor Inc. is looking for an IP Attorney/Agent with a strong foundation in materials science, electrical engineering, or computer science, plus solid patent‑law experience. In this role you will:
Location: Daily onsite presence at our San Jose headquarters in alignment with our Work policy
Reports to: Director IP Legal Management

- Lead patent prosecution – review invention disclosures, draft patents, manage office actions, and guide inventors and external counsel.
- Oversee outside counsel – assess work quality, timeliness, responsiveness, and cost; ensure alignment with Samsung’s standards.
- Strategically manage the IP portfolio – analyze patents, make lifecycle decisions, and balance value maximization with cost control.
- Harvest inventions – understand lab activities, organize technical discussions, and document all newly discovered IP.
- Facilitate collaboration – host invention‑harvest meetings, chair patent‑review committees, and grade invention quality with cross‑functional teams.
What You Bring

- B.S. in Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Registered patent agent or attorney (U.S. or equivalent).
- ≥ 5 years in industry with hands‑on patent drafting and prosecution as Attorney or 8 years in industry with hands‑on patent drafting and prosecution as a registered Patent agent
- Excellent spoken and written English; ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly.
- Analytical ability-Strong quantitative skills to understand electrical, physics, materials, and software inventions.
- Collaboration mindset - Proven ability to work with diverse engineering teams and external counsel.
