The Role

As a Manufacturing Engineering Manager at General Motors, you will lead critical foundry and pre‑machining engineering operations that directly support our aluminum casting production. You will serve as the technical authority for casting processes, automation, equipment performance, and continuous improvement, driving product quality, uptime and system stability across all shifts and product lines.

You will lead a high‑performing team of engineers and technical specialists across Laboratory and Process Engineering functions. Your leadership will ensure safe operations, deliver breakthrough improvements in quality and productivity, and support flawless introductions of new products, processes, and automation.

What You'll Do (Role Responsibilities):

  • Lead GMS safety activities, including compliance with WPO and safe work practices.
  • Manage and develop teams across Lab, Process Engineering, and Facility Engineering.
  • Provide daily technical direction to engineers and technical support personnel.
  • Serve as the SME for aluminum casting processes, equipment, tooling design, fixturing, dimensional analysis, and statistical process control.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts using Red X methodologies to eliminate systemic issues and customer defects.
  • Oversee engineering change management, root‑cause analysis, and laboratory analysis.
  • Participate in product PDT meetings and support new program launches through lessons learned, issue resolution, and technical readiness.
  • Drive GMS Continuous Improvement principles as the GMS CI Champion.
  • Champion the TIP process to quickly identify, contain, and resolve issues.
  • Support cross‑functional alignment with Maintenance, Manufacturing, Quality, Tooling, and suppliers.
  • Support the Business Plan Deployment (BPD) process.
  • Manage the 3000 account for overall plant expense control.
  • Facilitate structured problem‑solving (PRTS), ensuring root cause identification, containment, ownership, and closure.
  • Monitor and stay current on technology and process improvements.
  • Implement lessons learned and continuously optimize processes to improve throughput, quality, and cost.

Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • 7+ years of manufacturing engineering leadership required
  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience in TIP (Throughput Improvement Process)
  • Expertise in aluminum castings, machining operations, tooling/fixture design, dimensional analysis, Throughput Improvement Process and SPC
  • Red X certification
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams in a manufacturing environment
  • Commitment to safe work practices, WPO, and strong housekeeping

What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering
  • Foundry experience a plus
  • Experience with aluminum heat treatment
  • Operational Excellence training
  • Experience leading automation or robotics implementation
