Senior Specialist, Business Development – Tokyo, Japan

Role Responsibilities:

  • In this critical role, you will be managing large current accounts (Banks, Retailers) and accountable for prospecting, negotiating, signing contracts with new partners, collecting required documents, submitting complete full enrollment packages, driving the activation process, and training the partner.
  • Responsible account manager to grow Western Union Retail and Digital footprint nationally through large accounts with a focus on incremental growth.
  • Develop and lead new business signings by identifying prospects, managing negotiations and sales pipeline, and onboarding partners.
  • Drive revenue and transaction growth for newly signed accounts by identifying expansion opportunities, collaborating cross functionally with internal teams (Go to market, operations, finance & compliance).
  • Be close to the market and competitive landscape by building business acumen and making regular visits in the market and at partners. Identify and address growth opportunities within the current network portfolio.
  • Accountable for meeting revenue, volume, customer, and network productivity targets within territory and manage overall partner lifecycle.

Role Requirements:

  • To be successful in this role you will have at least 6-7 years (including 2-3 years’ experience leading teams) of sales and business development experience in Remittance, Digital Payments and Banking industries.  Experience in direct-to-consumer payments across retail channels and digital channels is highly desirable.   
  • You have a detailed understanding of the Japanese market, consumer trends, and remittance business overall.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, presentation and listening skills required.  Able to gain the trust and confidence of clients.  Comfortable handling multiple assignments; identify and accomplish priorities in order of importance; able to promptly adjust actions based on changing priorities.
  • Previous experience in outside sales or service of consumer products or financial services is a plus.   Good knowledge of products and agents’ industry/market, and good business/financial understanding.
  • You can speak fluent Japanese and English and able to bridge the gap between American and Japanese style business practices.
